dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to evaluate the energy benefits of liquid desiccant system for humidification in winter based on the regenerator process compared with direct-injection steam humidifier. The heat pump was selected as a heat source of liquid desiccant system because the heat pump can be operated for both cooling and heating by reverse cycle. The regeneration effectiveness and enthalpy effectiveness were used to estimate conditions of the process air leaving a regenerator of the liquid desiccant system. The results showed that the proposed system could save 42% primary energy consumption compared the reference system with direct-injection steam humidifier in winter. The liquid desiccant system for humidification needed low grade heat source while steam humidifier required high temperature heat source to provide the steam. The pre-heating the process air through regenerator in the proposed system is also critical to reduction in the operating energy. | en_US |
