'사이 공간’(in-betweeen space)에서의 소리, 공간, 이동의 상관성 연구: 인천국제공항의 사례를 중심으로

Abstract

오늘날 공간과 소리는 긴밀한 관계를 이루며 오늘날의 이동의 흐름을 섬세하 게 반영한다. 그러한 가운데, 공간에서는 소리에 대한 사회적 기대가 새롭게 형성되고 있다. 오늘날의 사이 공간(in-between space)의 경우도 예외가 아 니다. 사이 공간이란 지하철역, 공항처럼 우리가 살거나 일하지 않는 ‘지나치 는’ 공간을 말한다. 사이 공간은 특정한 소리와 무관한 곳으로 보인다. 그러나 그만큼 어떠한 소리가 들려도 무방한 영역으로 간주된다. 이러한 인식 안에서 최근 사이 공간에서 소리에 대한 사회적 기대가 서서히 형성되고 있다. 이 점 을 주목하며 본 논문은 사이 공간에서 실제로 소리, 공간, 이동의 과정이 상관 성을 지니는지의 여부를 확인해보고자 한다. 그러기 위해서 통계학 기반의 양 적 분석기법을 활용하는 인천국제공항 사례 연구를 활용하려 한다. 이 사례 연구에서는 인천공항 여행객, 근무자, 대학생을 대상으로 하는 설문조사를 통 해 수집한 자료를 SPSS 24.0으로 분석한다. 이러한 분석을 바탕 삼아 본 논 문은 인천공항 내에서 소리, 공간, 이동의 과정이 유의미한 상관성을 지니고 있음을 주장한다. 이 점은 소리를 활용하면, 인천공항의 공간의 측면과 이동의 흐름을 강화시킬 수 있고, 나아가 인천공항이 소리의 측면에서 새로운 장소가 될 수 있다는 점을 시사한다. Today, space and sound reflect the trend of movement sensitively, becoming closely intertwined. In doing so, social expectation of sound is being aroused in a new way in space. The case of in-between spaces is not exceptional. An in-between space, like a subway station and an airport, means a space where we do not reside or work, and one through which we pass. This space seems to be one that is unrelated to a particular sound. Yet, to such an extent, it is regarded as one that can accept any types of sound. Within this perception social expectation of sound has gradually been constructed in in-between spaces. Paying attention to this aspect, this study aims to examine whether sound, space, and movement have the interrelationships in practice. To this end, this research looks at a case of Incheon International Airport by employing statistics-based quantity analysis. This case study examines data collected through a survey on travellers, workers, and college students in the airport with SPSS 24.0. In this analysis this paper argues that sound, space, and movement have the meaningful interrelationships. This point implies that sound can intensify various aspects of space and the process of movement, and furthermore that Incheon airport can become a new place in terms of sound.
