고령자집단과 청장년 집단 간 스마트폰 커뮤니케이션 기능사용의 지각된 용이성 차이

Abstract

고령인구의 급속한 증가는 인구구조변화에 따른 사회적 부담으로 부정적 인식이 강하지만, 고령이 된다는 것은 현대 의료기술 발전에 따른 인류의 성취이다. 또한 고령자의 경험은 사회적 차원에서 볼 때, 활성화 환경을 통한 사회환원의 가치가 있는 자원이다. 한편 디지털 기술 기반 환경의 확장은 고령자의 디지털 제품‧서비스 사용에 대한 논의 필요성을 요구한다. 이에 본 연구는 스마트폰의 커뮤니케이션 기능사용에 있어서 고령자집단과 청장년집단 간의 지각된 용이성의 차이를 알아보고, 고령자의 용이성을 높일 수 있는 비배제적 개선방향의 도출을 목적으로 했다. 이에 고령자 집단 33명과 청장년집단 42명에게 2종의 스마트폰의 커뮤니케이션 기능관련 과제를 수행하고 자기보고식으로 설문에 응답하도록 했다. 응답 분석결과, 고령자 집단의 지각된 용이성은 대부분의 정신‧신체기능에서 더 낮게 평가되었고, 특히 인지기능이 필요한 기능에서 차이가 가장 컸으며, 사용경험이 있는 경우, 순간자극이라 할 수 있는 청각 피드백 기능에 있어서만 차이를 보였다. 이처럼 두 집단 간 지각된 용이성의 불일치는 스마트폰 커뮤니케이션 기능의 사용에서 고령자를 포용할 수 있는 비배제적 기술개발의 필요성을 말해준다. 사용경험이 있을 경우, 그 지각된 용이성의 유형을 줄일 수 있지만, 순간 정보인 청각피드백의 보완필요성을 말해준다. 본 연구는 스마트폰을 비롯한 디지털 기반 환경이 우리 삶의 중요한 부분이 되어가는 상황에서 고령사용자들이 마주하는 문제에 집중했다는 점에서, 장애인과 또 다른 기술 취약 계층을 위한 연구로써의 가치를 가진다. 본 연구결과는 향후, 고령자 등 기술 소외 계층을 위한 시스템 구상에 참조할 수 있다. Because unprecedented fast pace of population aging does not allow set-up time to the change, population aging is considered burden but living longer as victory of medical technology is worthy celebrating. To take benefits of longevity, we need to make enabling environment for older people to allow their active social participation. Mean while, as digital technology has aggressively diffused into our everyday environment and thus is popular, it needs to discuss prudently the matter of increasing use of digital devices and service by older people. Therefore, this study aims at identifying differences of perceived ease-of-use between young adults and the elderly when they use communication functions of smart phones in aspects of level of mental and body functions and then drawing non-exclusion measure to improve ease-of-use of older people. To figure out the degrees of mental and body functions required to text message and call, 75 participants(42 young people and 33 older people) were asked to answer to survey questions right after completing communication-related tasks. The survey results show that the group of older people generally have greater difficulties than the group of young people. interesting points are as follows; the differences between the two groups are greatest when they use functions needing cognitive capacities and when both have use experience of smart phones, the differences are observed at only auditory functions as instant stimuli. The disparity of perceived ease-of-use between the groups tells us that non-exclusion development is necessary to include older citizens and because use experience is helpful to reduce overall task difficulties except sound related function, auditory feed back should be reinforced. The findings can be applicable to develop technologies and devices for some minorities like the elderly excluded from using information technology.
