Human capital externalities and rural-urban migration

Abstract

This paper examines the impact of county-level human capital externalities on rural residents' migration decisions. Following Liu2008, I reexamine the determinants of rural-urban migration using data from the China Household Income Survey 2013. The results show that human capital externalities still exist and that increases in county-level human capital externalities have a negative effect on rural-urban migration. Continuing to increase investment in education to improve regional human capital levels remains an effective means to regulate labor outflows in rural China.| 논문은 현급 수준에서 인적자본의 외부효과가 농촌 주민의 도시로의 이주 결정에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. Liu2008의 방법론을 기반으로 중국가구소득 패널 (CHIP) 2013의 자료를 사용하여 노동 이주 결정 요인을 재검토한다. 분 석 결과 인적자본의 외부효과가 여전히 존재하여 지역의 인적 자본이 증가하 면 농촌에서 도시로의 이주 확률이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과 는 농촌으로부터의 노동력 유출을 규제하고 도시 실업 문제를 해결하기 위해 농촌지역에 교육투자를 늘리는 것이 필요함을 사사한다.
