- Abstract
|This study is to research whether Korean baby boomers are
able to participate in travel experiences after retirement and live with
self-esteem and a sense of well-being in their later lives. The
questionnaire consisted of questions about demographic characteristics,
self-esteem, psychological well-being, and participation in travel
experience activities. As an empirical analysis method, frequency
analysis was performed to find out the characteristics of the baby
boomer, the subject of the study. Correlation analysis was performed
to examine the relationship between travel experience activities,
self-esteem, and happiness.
Regression was performed to examine the causal relationship
between travel experience activities, self-esteem, and well-being, and
all empirical analyzes were verified with significance level. Statistical
processing was analyzed using SPSS WIN 25.0 program.
As a result of the empirical analysis, it can be understood that the
self-esteem increases when the degree of travel experience is high,
and in the case of hypothesis 1, "The travel experience of the baby
boomers generation will have a positive effect on the life self-esteem
of old age", it is interpreted that the hypothesis was adopted. It can
be said that the higher the degree of travel experience, the higher the
well-being.
Hypothesis 2 is "The travel experience of the baby boomers generation
will have a positive effect on the life and happiness of old age". It can
be said that the hypothesis was adopted.
In order to test the hypothesis about the mediating effect, three
conditions must be met. If the conditions presented in < Table 4-8 >
are met, the influence of the independent variable on the dependent
variable is determined by the regression equation. If the influence is
no longer statistically significant, it can be seen that the tentative
parameter strongly mediates the relationship between the independent
variable and the dependent variable. However, although statistical
significance is a necessary condition for testing mediating hypotheses,
it cannot be regarded as a sufficient condition.
When examining the causal relationship between travel experience,
self-esteem, and well-being in the hypothesis test by the structural
equation, it was found that the effect of the travel experience activity
on self-esteem was significantly positive (+), and the effect of
self-esteem on the well-being. The influence was found to have a
significant positive (+) effect, with the travel experience having a
significant positive (+) effect on the well-being.
Hypothesis 3 is that "The baby boomer generation’s travel
experience will have a mediating effect on self-esteem in the effect on
well-being.”In the effect of baby boomer generation's travel experience
on well-being, the mediating effect of self-esteem was verified.
If the direct effect between the independent variable and the
dependent variable is also significant, it is considered as a complete
mediation. If both the direct effect and the indirect effect are
significant at the same time, it is considered as a partial mediation
(Kim Gye-soo, 2011).
As a result of testing the hypothesis, both the indirect effect and
the direct effect were found to be significant variables (p<.05). It can
be seen that Hypothesis 3 “Pride will have a mediating effect on the
effect of the baby boomer generation’s travel experience on happiness.”
As a result of hypothesis testing, Hypothesis 1, Hypothesis 2, and
Hypothesis 3 were all adopted. Baby boomers' participation in travel
experience activities is a positive activity that enables them to use
their free time after retirement to have a richer life in old age and to
live the rest of their lives with self-esteem and well-being.
It was proved through the test of hypothesis that participation in
travel experience activities for baby boomers can lead their second life
after retirement with self-esteem and well-being.
