important role in managing projects and reducing the risk of cost, quality,
and safety, which is another project management element. Therefore, since
the past, there are many studies and attempts to calculate the appropriate
construction period to date, but prior studies have been used to analyze
multiple regressions, traditional linear time series models and classical
methods. Recently, artificial intelligence shows the strengths in predictions
and analysis, and there are many studies that utilize them, but there are
not many studies related to the duration of construction work. The purpose
of this study is based on case project data to predict the construction
period by introducing a Deep Neural Network, one of the mode of artificial
intelligence.
In the study, the structural works data on the typical floor of domestic
high-rise office building was collected. The construction quantity, the
number of resources, and the planned durations are input data, and the
actual durations are set as an output data. The three DNN algorithms of
the Matlab were trained, analyzed, and verified by these data. The optimal
algorithm was selected, and the prediction of construction duration was
calculated. The prediction through DNN was calculated much closer to the
actual duration than the planned one. In addition, through the case-analysis
of how the impact factors but construction quantity and the number of
resources affect the construction period, it is noted that it’s hard to
process the way how the each factor affectin effect on time and the DNN
model that learns with unknown process by itself was appropriate for
construction period forecasting.
This study was limited to the high-rise office building structural
construction, but if data collection is made on the other trade and the
further research on the classification of trade and project type for DNN,
the use of construction period forecasts using DNN will be enlarged on
project risk management.
