전역을 선택한 중기 복무 제대군인의 삶의 경험과 변화

In the area of changes to life goals after discharge, there were three categories. There were "variable"(3) changes from commitment to the organization and focus on self, "variable"(2) changes from a focus on achievements to focus on leisure, and no "variable"(3) changes to goals. In the area of life changes after discharge, three categories were identified. They had "typical"(6) leisure in daily life, "typical"(5) interpersonal relationships that were diverse and positive, and "typical"(5) intensification of economic anxiety about the maintenance of livelihood. In the area of realization of what should be considered before discharge only after discharge, there were three categories. They had "typical"(6) plans and designs that were specific for life after discharge, "variable"(3) reinforcement of competence according to goals after discharge, and "variable"(3) savings to maintain a livelihood and carry out a plan after discharge. Based on these findings, the study discussed its implications for follow-up studies. Keywords: mid-term military veteran, voluntary discharge, consensual qualitative research; 본 연구는 자발적으로 전역한 중기복무제대군인의 전역 과정과 삶의 변화를 심층적으로 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 의무복무기간 또는 복무연장 기간 내 장기복무심사에 응시하지 않았거나 장기복무심사에서 선발이 되었음에도 불구하고, 자발적 의지로 전역을 선택한 8명의 제대군인을 대상으로 반구조화된 일대일 화상 인터뷰를 진행하였고, 합의적 질적 연구(CQR, Consensual Qualitative Research)방법을 통해 자료를 분석하였다.

분석 결과는 네 가지의 연구문제 기준에 따라‘군 전역을 결심하게 된 동기 및 계기’,‘전역 이후 경험한 삶의 목표 변화’,‘전역 이후 경험한 삶의 변화’,‘전역 이후 느낀 전역 전 고려사항’으로 4개의 영역이 최종 도출되었으며 4개의 영역은 13개의 범주로 세분화되었다. 각 영역별로 나타난 범주를 요약하면 다음과 같다.

군 전역을 결심하게 된 동기 및 계기의 영역에서는 4개의 범주가 도출되었다. 근무여건의 불만족이‘전형적(6)’으로, 자아실현의 제약과 직업정체성의 혼란은 각각‘전형적(4)’으로, 피라미드 계급구조의 불만이‘드문(1)’으로 나타났다.

전역 이후 경험한 삶의 목표 변화의 영역에서는 3개의 범주가 도출되었다. 조직헌신에서 개인중심으로의 변화는‘변동적(3)’으로, 성취주의에서 여가주의로의 변화는‘변동적(2)’으로, 목표의 변화 없음은‘변동적(3)’으로 나타났다.

전역 이후 경험한 삶의 변화 영역에서는 3개의 범주가 도출되었다. 일상생활에서 느끼는 여유로움이‘전형적(6)’으로, 다양하고 긍정적인 대인관계 형성이‘전형적(5)’, 생계유지에 대한 경제적 불안 심화는‘전형적(5)’으로 나타났다.

전역 이후 느낀 전역 전 고려사항의 영역에서는 3개의 범주가 도출되었다. 전역 이후의 삶에 대한 구체적 계획 설계는‘전형적(6)’으로, 전역 이후의 목표에 따른 역량 강화는‘변동적(3)’으로, 전역 이후의 생계유지 및 계획을 실행하기 위한 저축은‘변동적(3)’으로 나타났다.

본 연구의 결과를 토대로 후속연구에 대한 시사점을 논하였다. |This paper presents an in-depth inquiry into the discharge process and life changes of mid-term military veterans that chose to discharge voluntarily. For the inquiry, the investigator conducted a semi-structured one-on-one video interview with eight discharged soldiers that did not apply for a long-term service review during the compulsory service term or extended service term or chose to discharge on their own will despite their qualification for a long-term service review. Collected data was analyzed in the consensual qualitative research(CQR) method. Analysis results identified four final areas according to the four research question criteria: "motivation and opportunity to decide to discharge," "changes to life goals after discharge," "life changes after discharge," and "realization of what should be considered before discharge only after discharge."
