선법의 사용에 따른 인물의 현실과 내면의 내러티브적 분석연구 - 영화 《뷰티풀 마인드》의 ‘수학의 만화경’을 중심으로

Abstract

Recently media are using diverse genres kinds of music. The most modern type of program music which maximize shape for the unique character type of a melody or a mode can be called a film score. A movie is a part that is based on Greek tragedy fairly general genre of music, drama, and art, and a film score occupies the most important in the movie genre. Sometimes a film score explains the things that cannot say as the word, maximize or distort the emotions, also lead a drama as the relationship of the characters, conflict, and background. The point of view is considered the theme which describes each character or its back. In this thesis, start the doubt about making the theme of film score under a modal system, which begins the Greek modality, and through the church mode after 9C, complete through the 12 modes of Renaissance era. Also, analyze the film score of "A Beautiful Mind", which is composed using a modal system, studied how to use the film score in the movie. In addition, analyze a melody construction, contour, and harmonic progression that interpret how to use as the measure that is distinguished the movie character's reality and inside. The two themes express the reality and inner world of John Nash, the protagonist in the movie. The first theme uses the Aeolian scale, the principal mode in the first theme, except for that the Mixolydian scale and tonal in part as well. In addition, never use a perfect dominant chord, clear the progression of IV-I and I-iv♭, the repeated rhythms reduce getting fast as time has gone on. The second theme uses the Lydian scale, the principal mode, except for that tonal in part. Compared with the first theme, that has a perfect authentic cadence and a stable modulation. Also, the rhythmic repetition of the time lag is longer than the first theme. The more interesting is the first theme, which has relatively unstable progression and various alterations use John's hallucination scenes. Likewise, the second theme, which has a stable progression and a perfect cadence use John's reality scenes. Precisely these two parts are distinguished each part of the movie. Conclusionally difference of using a mode of two themes, contrasting sound and progression compare with the reality and inner world of John Nash. | 현대의 미디어에서는 다양한 장르의 음악들이 사용되고 있다. 그 중에서 선율 혹은 선법(Mode)의 독특한 성격 유형을 극대화한 형태인 표제 음악의 가장 현대적인 형태는 영화 음악이라고 할 수 있다. 영화는 음악과 드라마, 미술의 종합적인 장르인 그리스 비극을 모태로 한 분야로, 영화 음악은 그 안에서 굉장히 중요한 역할을 차지한다. 영화 음악은 때로는 말로 할 수 없는 것들을 설명해주기도 하고, 감정을 극대화, 혹은 왜곡하기도 하면서 등장인물들의 관계와 갈등, 배경 등으로 드라마를 끌어나가는데, 여기서 가장 핵심적인 부분은 각 인물 혹은 배경을 묘사하는 테마(Theme)라고 얘기할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 고대 그리스의 선법에서 시작하여, 9C 이후 교회 선법을 거쳐, 르네상스 시대의 12선법을 지나서 완성된 선법 체계가 영화음악의 테마를 결정할 수 있는가에 대한 의문으로 시작하여, 선법 체계를 기반으로 작곡된 작품인 영화《뷰티풀 마인드》(A Beautiful Mind)의 음악을 분석하고, 영화에서 어떻게 사용되었는지 연구해보았다. 그리고 더 나아가 선율 구조와 윤곽, 화성의 진행, 리듬의 형태까지 분석하여, 이것이 영화 속 인물의 현실과 내면을 구분 짓는 수단으로 어떻게 사용되는지 해석해보았다. 영화에서는 크게 두 개의 테마가 주인공 존 내쉬의 현실과 내면을 나타낸다. 첫 번째 테마에서는 주요 선법인 에올리안과, 그 외에 믹솔리디안과 조성이 일부 사용되고 있다. 또한 완벽한 딸림화음이 등장하지 않으며, IV-I와 I-iv♭진행이 분명하고, 리듬이 반복되면서 시간에 따라 점차 빠르게 축소된다. 두 번째 테마에서는 리디안이 주요 선법으로 사용되고 있으며, 그 외에 조성이 일부 나타난다. 첫 번째 테마와 대조적으로 완벽한 정격 종지를 가지고 안정적인 전조를 하며, 리듬 반복의 시간차가 첫 번째 테마에 비해 여유가 있다. 덧붙여 보다 흥미로운 점은 비교적 불안정한 진행과 다양한 변화를 보이는 첫 번째 테마가 존의 환각 혹은 내면을 나타내는 장면에서, 그리고 비교적 안정적인 진행과 완전한 종지형을 보이는 두 번째 테마는 존의 현실 세계를 나타내는 장면에서 정확히 구분지어 등장한다는 점이다. 즉, 두 테마의 선법 사용의 차이와 대조적 음향 및 진행은 존 내쉬의 현실과 내면을 확실히 대비시키고 있다고 할 수 있다.
