V. Hugo의 시 'S'il est un charmant gazon'에 의한 F. Liszt, G. Fauré, C. Franck의 가곡 비교 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 빅토르 위고의 시 ‘만약 매혹적인 풀밭이 있다면’(S’il est un charmant gazon)을 가사로 한 리스트와 프랑크, 포레의 작품을 분석 및 비교하여 연주자 관점에서 해석한 연구이다. 리스트와 프랑크, 포레는 동시대 작곡가로 서로의 음악 세계에 영향을 끼치며 접점을 가지고 있다는 점에서 이 세 명의 곡을 비교 분석하는 것은 의미 있다고 할 수 있다.

본 연구의 주제인 ‘만약 매혹적인 풀밭이 있다면’의 정확한 이해를 위해 먼저 시인 위고의 생애와 작품 특징에 대해 살펴보 고 시의 해석과 발음기호 및 구조적 특징을 분석하였다. 이어서 리스트와 프랑크, 포레의 생애와 음악적 특징에 대해 알아보고 각 작곡가의 작품을 구조와 형식, 리듬과 박자, 선율과 화성, 다이나믹으로 나누어 분석하고 비교 연구하였다. 리스트의 곡은 피아니스트였던 그의 특징에 따라 화려한 선율라인을 가지고 있고 잦은 전조가 사용된다. 프랑크의 곡은 뚜렷한 형식과 명확한 조성으로 고전주의의 순수함을 지키고자 했던 그의 특징을 나타내며 포레의 곡 또한 전통적인 음악형식을 지니고 있지만 섬세하고 자유로운 선율의 사용으로 낭만주의의 선두주자가 되었던 그의 모습을 보여준다.

각 작품에 대한 비교분석의 결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, 세 작곡가의 작품 모두 동일한 형태의 피아노 간주가 반복되는 공통된 형식을 지니지만 시의 구조를 해석한 방법에는 차이점을 보인다. 둘째, 리듬과 박자에 있어서 세 작곡가 모두 3박자 계열의 리듬과 알레그레토 정도의 빠르기를 사용하였고, 시의 각운을 긴 음가와 강박으로 강조하였다. 셋째, 리스트의 곡은 반음계와 나란한 조, 공통음과 차용화음을 활용한 적극적이고 잦은 전조가 일어나는 반면, 프랑크의 곡은 공통화음을 사용한 자연스러운 전조가 사용되며, 포레의 곡은 처음부터 끝까지 동일한 조성으로 진행된다. 또한, 리스트와 포레는 마지막 절의 선율을 변형시켜 곡의 분위기를 고조시켰지만, 프랑크는 곡의 처음부터 끝까지 동일한 선율을 사용하였다. 넷째, 세 곡의 다이나믹은 모두 p악상을 바탕으로 여리고 섬세한 느낌을 표현하며, 다른 작곡가에 비해 리스트는 pp부터 mf까지 큰 폭의 다이나믹과 자세한 지시어를 사용하였다.

본 연구 결과는 동일한 시를 가사로 한 작품일지라도 작곡가의 시 해석 관점과 음악적 특징에 따라 다양한 음악적 요소로 표현될 수 있음을 알고, 작곡가의 의도에 맞는 가사와 음악과의 관계를 정확히 파악하여 실제 연주 시 연주자의 효과적인 연주를 돕는 것에 목적이 있다. |This thesis is a study on musical setting written by F. Liszt, G. Fauré and C. Franck with regard to the lyrics of V. Hugo’s Poem ‘S’il est un charmant gazon’. It is meaningful to compare and analyze the songs of these three composers who lived at the same and they had influenced each other and have contact points. In chapter Ⅰ, the life of poet Hugo and the features, interpretation, pronunciation and structural of his poem ‘S’il est un charmant gazon’are analyzed. This masterpiece expresses a desire for a loved one, and every verse of this piece has a regular rhyme. In chapter Ⅱ, the life of Liszt, Franck and Fauré are studied. In addition, analyzing musical characteristics of their works such as a) the structure and form, b) the rhythm and beat, and c) the melody, harmony, and dynamic are compared. The three composers composed with their own distinctive ways. Liszt’s song has colorful melodic lines using frequent transitions, while Franck’s song shows distinct forms with common chords, and Fauré’s song used a traditional musical structure with a delicate vocal melody. The results of comparative analysis of each works are as follows. First, these three pieces have a common feature that used the same form of repeated piano intervention. But the method of interpreting the structure of the poem is different. Second, all composers utilized a three-beat rhythm and an allegretto speed. The rhyme with long notes and compulsions were also emphasized. Third, Liszt’ song was consisted of active and frequent transitions using chromatic and parallel keys and borrowed chords while Franck’s song used natural transitions. Regardless Fauré’s song used a same tone from beginning to end. In addition, Liszt and Fauré transformed last verse melody, but Franck made use of the invariant melody line for all verses. Finally, the dynamics of all three songs were expressed based on the p. Compared to other composers, Liszt especially used a wide range of dynamics from pp to mf. As the result of this study, even a work with the same lyrics of the poem can be expressed in various musical elements depending on the composer's perspective of interpretation of the poem and their own musical characteristics. Therefore, through deep understanding of the relationship between lyrics and music and the consideration of composer’s intention, performers will be able to perform effectively with own subjective interpretation
