최하림의 시론 연구

Abstract

최하림은 초기부터 역사에 대한 회의를 일정하게 품으면서 현실 감각과 예술적 충동 사이에서 갈등한 시인이다. 그는 민중의 진솔한 삶에도 주목했지만, 시를 언어예술로 보고 그 예술적 완성을 누구보다도 중시하였다. 그의 시는 노래 부르고 싶은 예술적 충동과 진실한 이야기를 하고자 하는 리얼리스트로서의 인식이 조화하고 길항하는 세계로 펼쳐졌다. 이러한 흐름 속에서 최하림은 산문적 증언과 담론 구성에도 매진하였다. 그는 자신의 시론적 사유를 생애 내내 줄곧 펼쳤는데, 현실 지향의 시정신과 함께 시의 가장 중요한 본질로서의 언어에 대해 누구보다도 관심을 가졌다. 이러한 논지는 우리로 하여금 시의 장르적 본질과 기능에 대한 근원적 사유에 이르도록 해주었다. 결국 최하림의 시론은 한편으로는 민중적 서정시의 주류화를 위한 시사(詩史) 기술로, 다른 한편으로는 언어의 발견과 개척을 통해 사랑을 실천하고 상상력을 세련화하는 방향으로 확장되어갔다. 예리한 현실 감각과 세련된 미적 지향의 균형을 추구하면서, 현실 지향의 시정신과 사랑의 옹호를 일관되게 발화한 것이다. 이 점은, 최하림을 진정한 의미의 민중적 서정 옹호론자이자 언어와 상상력의 매개를 통해 실존적 자기 개진을 강조한 미학주의자로서 세워주는 그만의 특성이다. Choi, Ha-rim is a poet who have been struggling between the sense on reality and artistic impulse, consistently doubting on history from his early poems. He focused on genuine life of the people but also he considered poem as a language art and placed more emphasis on artistic completion than any other poets. His poems spread into the world where the artistic impulse of singing and recognition as a realist seeking true stories were in harmony and competition. In this flow, Choi, Ha-rim strove for prosaic testimony and the construction of discourse. He unfolded his thoughts on poetics for his entire life and paid attention to language as the most important essence of poem together with the orientation toward reality. This leaded us to the fundamental thoughts on the essence and function of poem as a literary genre. Ultimately, Choi, Ha-rim’s poetics was extended to the description of the history for Minjung lyric poetry to be the mainstream on one hand, and to the practice of love and refinement of imaginative power by discovering and developing a language on the other hand. That is, his poetics consistently talked about the soul of poetry aiming at reality and the advocation of love, pursuing the balance of sharp sense on reality and refined aesthetic orientation. This is his unique characteristics that put Choi both as the true supporter of Minjung lyricism and the aestheticist who have emphasized existential statements of a self with a language and imagination
