Abstract
Due to the recent frequent earthquakes, Korea is not in a safe zone from earthquakes. This increase in the frequency of disasters poses a great risk to national infrastructure. The dam, one of the major nation facilities, it is necessary to secure the stability of dams. The fill dam is a major national facility and if damage occurs during an earthquake, it can cause serious damage, and if damage occurs by an earthquake, the dam may collapse due to settlement, in order to assess the stability of the dam, it is important to predict the settlement because it is considered to be closely related to depth and longitudinal crack width. Swaisgood (2003) performed a numerical analysis to present the empirical correlation derived. Therefore, this study was conducted based on Swaisgood (2003) research. In this study, a two-dimensional nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed to predict the behavior of EF, one of the common types of fill dams. A total of 20 seismic waves selected from the PEER database are used to describe the effect on the strength and size of motion on the ground. To determine the accuracy of the numerical model, it was verified by comparison with the ECRD conducted in the preceding study. Further validation of the numerical analysis model was carried out by comparing the measurement records of the 2017 Pohang earthquake in Korea. Two-dimensional nonlinear dynamic analysis was applied to prior study CFRD, ECRD model and this study EF for predict the settlement of the fill dam. A total of 20 seismic waves were applied and an empirical formula was proposed to a comprehensive the results of the analysis obtained from the numerical analysis and the results of Swaisgood (2003). In addition, the ratio of dam crest settlement derived from prior study was applied as an evaluation index, and it was decided that it was appropriate to apply it to domestic fill dam.
