- Abstract
- Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has a broad spectrum of properties and is particularly infamous for having toxic effects on various biosystems. The regulation of H2S levels in ecosystems is thus important not only to safeguard public health, but to provide environmental protection. In recent years, significant efforts have been focused on solution and materials chemistry-based approaches for the removal of H2S gas from different processes and industrial products/wastes. This paper briefly discusses the physicochemical properties and toxicology profile of H2S. This paper is then briefly summarized, focusing on recent progress in solution chemistry-based approaches for the removal of H2S from various sources, especially biogases, natural gases, and industrial products/wastes. A particular focus is placed on innovative research on materials chemistry for removing H2S, along with the advantages and limitations regarding their practical application. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
