사이버스페이스에서 디자인 패러다임에 관한 연구 - 사이버 커뮤니케이션을 중심으로 -

Abstract

우리가 생활하고 있는 시간과 공간은 그물 망처럼 총총히 짜여진 사회적 체계에 의해 항상 개인과 공동체의 사고 방식과 활동에 제한(limitation)을 갖도록 강요하고 있다. 이러한 제한(limitation)에서 벗어나고자 하는 욕구는 디지털매체와 결합되어 현실과는 또 다른 체제를 사이버스페이스(Cyber Space)라는 이름으로 만들어내고 있다. 사이버스페이스의 구성요건중 하나는 쌍방향적 커뮤니케이션화 이다. 커뮤니케이션이란, 사람과 사람 사이에 무엇인가를 공유하는 것 즉, 두 개 이상의 개체가 기호를 매개로 하여 그것을 공유하는 것을 뜻한다. 커뮤니케이션 체계 안에서 의사소통이 가능하고, 전달과 공유가 성립되며, 메시지를 통해 자신의 의도를 주고 받음으로서 커뮤니케이션의 효과를 갖는 것이다. 이러한 커뮤니케이션 수단의 변천과정을 살펴보면 최초 음성, 음향 및 신체 접촉으로부터 시작되어 이것을 기록으로 남기고자 하는 문자화 시도로서 그림과이를 보다 정교하게 기호화시킨 설형문자(cuneiform), 상형문자(hieroglyphic) 및 한자(Chines letters)로 발전하였으며 또 다른 형태로서 알파벳(alphabet)과 한글(korean letters),그리고 이것의 발전형이 등장했다. 이러한 문자화의 착실한 진행과는 별도로 새로운 커뮤니케이션 수단인 암호가 있다. 암호는 흔히 본래의 의미를 감추고자 하는 뜻으로 해석이 되지만 또 다른 의미로서 대량의 다양한 정보를 신속하게 주고받기 위한 수단으로 볼 수도 있을 것이다. 정보의 전달이라는 측면에서 볼 때 암호는 현대 커뮤니케이션 수단의 시작점으로 바라볼 수 있으며 이는 1837년에 개발된 모르스 부호(morse code)의 기본 토대인 `점(·)`과`선( -)`이 디지털 기반의 현대 멀티 미디어가 갖는 `0`과 `1`의 신호조합체계와 흡사한 면이 있음을 봐도 알 수 있다. 사이버스페이스 상의 커뮤니케이션은 위에서 살펴본 일반적인 커뮤니케이션의 발전사와 유사하다. 1940년대 말엽 컴퓨터의 개발과 더불어 시작된 네트워크상의 Cyber 커뮤니케이션은 최초에 일반적인 문자(text)체계로부터 시작하여 현재에 이르러서는 그림위주의 그래픽 커뮤니케이션으로 발전해 왔다 인류의 커뮤니케이션 수단이 그림으로부터 문자로 발전한 것과는 달리 거꾸로 역 선회하는 듯 하다. 디자인적 측면에서 다양한 스타일들이 장기간에 걸쳐지속적으로 반복하며 발전하듯, 사이버스페이스 상의 커뮤니케이선수단도 출발점이 다를 뿐 지속적이며 반복적인 변화를 하고 있는 것이라고 생각된다. The space and time in the real life limits a way of thinking and a mode of living. The desire to free ourselves from this limitation creates a new system, cyber space, which is different from our reality and Is combined with digital media. The cyber space is composed of many things, and Interactive communication is one of them. Communication means that Individuals more than two are holding a things in common through using many things. The ways of communication started firstly from the mixes of voices, sounds, and gestures, and gradually they developed pictures to make a record. At the last stage, more elaborated and symbolized devices, such as cuneiform characters and hieroglyphic characters, to textuaiize are contrived, and these developed chinese letters and alphabet. Separately from textualizing process, as an another way of communication, there is a code. The purpose of a code is to hide original moaning, but nowaday It Is for interchanging enormous and various Information rapidly in he view of information transmission, a code Is a starlingpoint of real modern communication. This aspect Is foundin morse code based on dots and lines which are verysimitar to digital system based on `0` and `1`. The development of communication on cyber space is not different from general communication. Since appearance of computer stirred cyber communication on network in late1940`s, for cyber communication text system is used at first and then graphic system which gives the first consideration to visuals is changed. This development Is diametrically opposed to that of general communication. In the design aspects, as various styles advance continuously in a long period, ways of communication on cyber space are changing continuously and repeatedly on the different starting point.
