좋은 뉴스의 으뜸가는 조건으로서 진실 보도

Abstract

본 논문의 주된 목적은 언론의 뉴스 담론 생산과 관련해서 사회 구성주의 시각을 ㄹ일정ㅇ하게 수용하고 또 언론의 담론적 실천 역할을 인정한다면, 진실 보도의 가치는 더 높아진다는 명제와, 그렇기 때문에 진실 보도는 좋은 뉴스의 필수적이며 으뜸가는 조건이라는 명제를 이론적으로 입증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 ▲사실의 범주와 그 의미, ▲사회적 사실이 구성되는 과정과 언어의 역할, ▲현실의 사회적 구성과 그 의미, ▲재귀적 구성주의(reflective constructionism)와 진실 보도의 관계를 차례로 논의한 다음, (1) 뉴스는 크든 작든 언론의 뉴스 틀(news frame)에 의해 재구성된 현실이다. (2) 언론에 의해 재구성된 현실은 독자, 시청자에게 재귀하여 그들의 다음 현실 구성에 크든 작든 영향을 미친다. (3) 진실하지 못한 언론의 현실 재구성은 여러 가지 개인적, 사회적 차원의 폐해를 가져온다. (4) 특히 언론 보도의 담론적 실천(discursive practice) 역할을 고려할 때, 진실한 정보를 토대로 한 숙의(delibertaion)라야 현실을 합리적으로 개혁하는 데 이바지할 수 있다는 측면에서 진실 보도의 가치는 더 높아진다. (5) 고로 언론의 현실 재구성은 가급적 종합적 진실(the whole truth)에 가까이 갈 수 있도록 사실을 충실하게 수집해서 정직하고 신중하게 표상하도록 노력하지 않으면 안 된다. (6) 따라서 진실 보도는 좋은 뉴스의 필수적이며 으뜸가는 조건임을 논변하고 있다.

The present study is the first step in a series of research projects which investigate what might called the "standards of good news", the claim that even though each society may have its own traditions and voices, the good journalism wherever it serves will all be attempting the same thing: intelligent fact-based reporting, honest in intent and effect, serving no cause but the discernible truth, and written clearly for its readers and viewers whoever they may be. Under this problematic, the main purpose of the present study at the outset is to theoretically demonstrate the proposition that the virtue of the true news reporting will be getting more demanding, if we accept some argumentations of social constructivists and understand journalism as a discursive practice. According to this purpose, the present study examines ▲categories and meanings of facts, ▲relationships between language and social reality construction, ▲various meanings of social reality construction, ▲relationships between the true news reporting and the reflexive constructivism. As the results, this study demonstrates six theoretical propositions: 1) news is more or less reconstructed reality by news frames varying with news institutions; 2) the reality reconstructed by news media continually turns back(to be reflexible) onto their readers and viewers it produces, therein apply to a world constituted of their thoughts and activities; 3) untrue news reporting have various kinds of bad effects both on individual and society; 4) furthermore, as we deliberate journalism's role as a discursive practice, that is to say, since the deliberation only on the basis of true informations contributes to the amelioration of social evils and the rational reconstruction of society, the true news reporting getting more valuable. 5) accordingly, news reporting has to honesty and scrupulously represent the day's reality to be a close approximation to the whole truth by collecting facts as sceptically and faithfully as possible; 6) therefore, the true news reporting is necessary and primary condition for good news. These propositions are not to say that there is the truth out there. But these are only to say that though we may never grasp it in any absolute and final sense, we can develop more accurate and comprehensive versions of reality by demonstrating more multiple and qualified news sources, more trustworthy evidences, more rigorous application of journalistic rules, and better forms of argumentation to our subjects.
