Abstract
The present paper discusses the effects of pronunciation teaching in listening comprehension in English. In particular, this study compares the effects of the traditional pronunciation teaching method that focuses on individual sounds ('Segmental Approach') with the effects of a more up-to-date teaching method that focuses on a more global-level phenomena, such as linking and intonation ('Prosodic Approach'). Two groups of a total of 46 college students participated in the experiment for two hours per week for 7 weeks. The results of the experiment show that both methods greatly increased the post-test scores of the students, but that there was no significant difference between them. This paper also discusses implications for future research and limitations of the study.
