Abstract
A new method of splitting shared-bus architecture to reduce the energy
dissipation for global data transfer among a set of interconnected
processing elements is developed. Bus splitting can be used to reduce
the energy dissipation and to reduce delay by lowering the parasitic
load of each bus segment. In this research, we have developed tree-based
bus splitting techniques and design methodologies. This is an extension of
the conventional horizontally aligned bus splitting methods. Preliminary
results show that the proposed techniques can significantly reduce the
energy dissipation.
