Abstract
Demand response is proactive measures reducing energy production and consumption, improving the reliability of power systems, and saving the operational costs of power grids. For a residential sector, although customers voluntarily tend to participate in the demand response programs, they face principal barriers before their participation. This paper deals with these barriers and suggests a community-scale energy management system applied to community-connected households, distributed energy resources, and electric vehicles. It aims to provide optimal scheduling of energy resources and systems in the community. A case study with 4 scenarios is conducted to investigate the effectiveness of residential demand response with the help of a community energy management system.
