Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to categorize the modalities of the verb constructions by the distinction of subject of mentality and by the semantic features and to survey the syntagmatic relations among the subcategories and the relations between them and the pre-final & final endings. In the first, the modalities are divided into two groups, of which the ones are of the behavior and the another ones are of the non-behavior. Then the latters are further subcategorized by the semantic features and by the permissible range of the mental subject. According to the semantic features, they are divided into two; the emotive and volitive one and the cognitive one. And according to the permissible range of the mental subject, they are also divided into two groups; the restrictive one and the non-restrictive one. The subcategories are combined with each other in a certain order according to their properties. And we can verify the appropriateness of the subcategorization by that.
