미니멀 음악을 통한 고등학교 1학년 현대음악 지도방안 연구 - Steve Reich를 중심으로 -

Abstract

This article is based on the goal of the seventh course of study. That is “In school educations, learners listen various musics of various ages and cultural areas, perform, analyze, understand the values and the roles of musics in life, and so that the music can be familiar to learners." This article have studied the techniques of teaching the Contemporary music more familiar and more easy. Contemporary music deviate from the tradition and reflects various spirits and ideas of the present age. Learning Contemporary music makes learners to be understood the phenomenons of music in social, historical contexts, and to be developed originality, insight, critical ability, and it breaks down the traditional view of music so that learners can have broad sight at sounds. But the reality of school education exclude Contemporary music. The major reason of that is many music teachers have not enough experience and they fear Contemporary music. And, not only learners unfamiliar to Contemporary music's sounds and expressions, but also they have less chance to contact it. So this study consider guidelines for teaching Contemporary music, and focused on the 10th grades who have much studied and have many experiences. To accomplish that, the first, minimal music was studied. Minimal music makes no aversions to even people who have no understandings to Contemporary music. Minimal music is not a unique trend. but originated in arts, and derived from minimalism. It appears in various fields such as arts, designs, architectures, fashions, etc until presents day. Also, differently to twelve-tone music, it is made until presents day, and it is used in popular music, movies, animations, advertisements. For this reason, learners would not unfamiliar to minimal music. And it is based on minimal source. It is made by ‘repeating technique', so learners can understand the form and contents easy with various series of learning. The seconds, with “Clapping music" of Steve Reich whom is representative composer of minimal music, characteristics of minimal music can be understood simply. “Clapping Music" has only one rhythm pattern and expresses a phase shifting with only clapping sound of two players. Unlike general minimal music, its playing time is short and the scale is small. As this makes the learners not to be bored, learning effects will be increased. The thirds, With minimal music technique, learners not only learn the theory and appreciation, but also can creation and playing using korean-music rhythm. Through such activity, learners can understand the minimal music more easy and it will minimize aversion to Contemporary music. At the point of Contemporary music education's effect, Contemporary music must be taught to learners. Although the nature of Contemporary music is thought to be difficult, if the education and learning is good, Contemporary music is able to be easy and interesting. In future, studying Contemporary music guiding plan must be more active, and that may make the music not to be expressed difficult only.; 본 논문은 제 7차 교육과정의 목표인 ‘학교교육에서 다양한 시대와 문화권의 음악을 듣고, 연주하고, 분석하며, 생활 속에서 음악의 역할과 가치를 이해하여 음악을 생활화 하도록 한다.’는 내용에 의거하여, 현대음악을 보다 친근하고 쉽게 지도하기 위함을 연구하였다. 현대음악은 전통에서 벗어나 현 시대의 다양한 정신과 아이디어를 반영한 음악이다. 이러한 현대음악을 학습하는 것은 학습자로 하여금 사회적, 역사적 맥락 안에서 음악의 현상을 이해하고, 창의력, 사고력, 비판력을 길러주며, 전통적인 음악관을 허물어 폭넓은 음향 세계로 미학적 시각을 보다 넓혀준다. 하지만 학교 교육 현장에서의 실제는 현대음악이 배척되는 것이 현실이다. 이는 대다수 음악 교사들의 현대음악에 대한 경험 부족과 두려움을 주원인으로 들 수 있으며, 학습자 또한 현대음악의 음향과 표현에 낯설음과 경험부족을 다른 원인으로 들 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 음악과 교육 과정 중 국민 공통 기본 교육 과정을 충실히 거쳐, 누적되어온 학습의 결과와 경험이 심화되어있는 10학년을 대상으로, 현대음악에 대한 학습 지도안을 고찰해보았다. 이를 위한 방법으로는 첫째, 다양한 현대음악 사조 중 현대음악에 대한 지식이 없는 사람들에게도 거부감이 없는 미니멀 음악을 중심으로 연구하였다. 미니멀 음악은 음악만의 독자적 사조가 아닌, 미술에서 유래된, 미니멀리즘의 파생분야로서 미술, 디자인, 건축, 패션 등 다양한 분야에서 현재까지 등장하는 사조이다. 또한 12음렬 음악 등과 달리 현재까지 작곡되고 있으며 대중음악, 영화, 애니메이션, 광고 등에서도 사용되고 있다. 학습자는 이러한 연유로 미니멀 음악을 낯설어 하지 않을 것이다. 그리고 최소한의 소재를 바탕으로 ‘반복’이라는 기법을 활용하여 생성된 음악이므로 학습자로 하여금 그 형태의 파악과 음악의 내용 이해에 무리를 주지 않고 다양한 연계학습을 통해 학습자의 이해를 증진할 수 있다. 둘째, 미니멀 음악의 대표적 작곡가인 Steve Reich의 “Clapping Music"을 제재곡으로 사용하여 보다 단순하게 미니멀 음악의 특징을 파악하도록 하였다. “Clapping Music”은 하나의 리듬 패턴을 가지고 두 연주자의 손뼉 소리만으로 단계전환을 나타내는 곡으로 일반적인 미니멀 음악과 달리 연주시간이 짧고 규모가 작다. 이는 학습자로 하여금 지루함을 주지 않으므로 학습 효과가 증진된다. 셋째, 미니멀 음악의 기법을 활용하여 학습자로 하여금 이론 및 감상 학습에만 그치는 것이 아니라, 국악 장단을 이용하여 창작과 연주 활동을 병행하도록 하였다. 이러한 활동을 통하여 학습자는 미니멀 음악을 보다 쉽게 이해할 수 있으며, 현대음악에 대한 거부감이 최소화된다. 현대음악을 교육함으로서 얻는 교육적 효과를 볼 때 현대음악은 반드시 교육되어야 한다. 현대음악의 특성상 어렵고 난해하다고 생각되기도 하지만, 무엇보다 현대음악에 대한 교수 및 학습이 제대로 이루어진다면 현대음악도 더 이상 난해하고 어려운 음악이 아닌 쉽고 재미있는 학습이 될 수 있다. 앞으로 난해하고 어려운 음악으로만 표현되지 않는 현대음악의 지도방안 연구가 더욱 활성화 되어야 할 것이다.
