온라인 토론의 양상 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 모든 사람들이 시간과 공간의 제약 없이 토론에 참여하여 쟁점들에 대해 논의하고 여론을 조성할 수 있는 공론장으로 온라인 토론이 제 기능을 하고 있는지 토론게시판을 중심으로 살펴보고, 앞으로 국어교육에 있어 토론으로써 가치가 있는지를 연구하여, 온라인 토론이 국어교육에 미칠 수 있는 영향을 설명하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 설문지를 작성하여 조사한 결과, 사람들이 가장 많이 참여하는 네이버 토론장과 인터넷 한겨레의 한토마를 연구대상으로 선정하여 온라인 토론의 양상을 형태와 내용으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 온라인 토론의 형태는 웹 사이트 마다 조금씩 다른 형식을 보였지만, 누구나 토론에 참여할 수 있도록 편리하게 운영되고 있었고, 토론게시판을 운영하는 운영자가 있어 토론의 원활한 진행을 돕는다. 그리고 웹 사이트 마다 각각의 흥미 있는 코너로 구성되어 있었다. 온라인 토론은 웹 사이트 마다 글을 작성하는 방법이 달랐다. 네이버 토론장은 ID로 로그인을 한 후 글을 작성 할 수 있었고, 한토마는 ID로 로그인을 해도, 다시 논객으로 등록을 해야 글을 작성할 수 있었다. 또한 네이버 토론장은 토론게시글과 뉴스의 기사를 가지고 토론을 하는 반면, 한토마는 논객으로 활동하는 토론자들이 올린 토론게시글로 토론을 하였다. 온라인 토론게시판에는 정해진 순서와 요령이 없기 때문에 입론, 교차조사, 반박의 방법으로 토론을 진행하기 어렵고 이러한 결과 논제에 대한 찬성과 반대의 입장을 명확히 알기 어려웠다. 온라인 토론의 내용은 토울민이 제시한 논증 구조를 내용 분석의 틀로 삼았다. 토울민은 토론에 있어서 논리적인 글로 상대방에게 설득력을 높이기 위해서는 토론의 주제에 대해서 사실을 바탕으로 주장을 펼치되 주장을 뒷받침 할 수 있는 논리적인 근거가 있어야 한다고 보고, 이러한 형식이 모두 갖추어진 글을 논리적인 글이라고 보았다. 그래서 온라인 토론에 있어서 입론, 교차조사, 반박에 해당하는 토론게시글, 답변, 댓글의 논증구조를 살펴본 결과 토론을 하기에 타당한 논거가 뒷받침 되는 논거체계를 갖춘 논증적인 글들이 적었다. 온라인 토론게시판의 형식과 방법은 누구나 토론을 할 수 있도록 편리하고 쉽게 구성되어 있었고 이를 위해 조금씩 보충해 나가고 있었다. 하지만 정작 중요한 온라인 토론게시판의 글들은 토론으로 적합하지 않은 비논증적인 글들이 많은 것을 볼 수 있었다. 이는 토론에 참여하는 토론자들이 논리적이고 설득력 있는 글을 작성하지 못한다는 것이다. 본 연구는 온라인 토론이 토론게시판의 형식과 방법이 체계적으로 잘 구성되어 있어도 토론에 참여하는 토론자들이 논증적인 글을 작성하여 토론을 하지 못 한다면 토론의 기능을 하지 못 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 온라인 토론이 올바른 토론의 장으로 기능하기 위해서는 국어교육에 있어서 논리적인 체계를 갖춘 논증적 글쓰기에 대한 지도가 더욱 활발히 이루어져야 할 것이다. 또한 토론이 대화로 이루어지는 화법교육에 머물러 있었다면, 이제는 글로써 이루어지는 쓰기교육의 하나의 장이 될 수 있을 것이다.; The purpose of this study is to describe the function of on-line discussion bulletin board in setting agenda through unlimited, anonymous participation. Particularly, the focus is on the pedagogical implications for Korean language education regarding teaching discussion. The researcher conducted a questionnaire survey to find out the two most popular on-line discussion forums, which are Naver on-line discussion bulletin board and Hankyoreh Hantoma. This study focuses on the form and content of the on-line discussion. Despite a few differences of each forum, there were several common features. First, anyone could participate in the discussion. Second, there is a host of each discussion to facilitate the debate. Thirdly each forum has unique features that interest its participants. On-line discussion forum has its own way of posting opinions. Naver users need to log in to post their opinions, while Hantoma users have to log in and register themselves as a panel. In addition, topics of Naver discussion are from news articles or posted by participants, while those of Hantoma are just postings of panels. As there is no specified procedure for on-line discussion, it was hard to find a well-organized discussion of argument-cross investigation-refutation. Such informality made it difficult to identify pros or cons. Analysis of the contents is based on the argumentative discourse suggested by Toulmin. Toulmin argues that persuasive argumentation requires a statement based on the facts regarding the topic and logical supporting ideas. A logical argumentative discourse consists of a factual statement and supporting ideas. The results showed that on-line discussion bulletin boards provided easy access for participants, and anyone could add his/her opinion to others'. However, few cases of discussion consist of the three steps of argument-cross investigation-refutation. Even though the on-line forum encourages well-structured discussion, if the participants are incapable of produce proper argumentative discourse, it is difficult to take advantage of on-line forum. The findings of this research suggest that Korean language instructions pay more attention to writing argumentative text of logical system so that on-line discussion forums serve the public interests. As current instruction on pragmatics in debates is focused on speaking skills, some attention needs to be drawn to skills in written discussions.
