브람스의 연속적인 변형기법에 대한 연구

Abstract

브람스는 19세기 말 진보적이고 혁신적인 음악을 추구했던 바그너, 리스트와는 달리 베토벤으로부터 이어받은 고전적 형식을 중시한 작곡가이다. 철저한 형식을 추구했음에도 불구하고 브람스는 그의 작품들에서 분명한 낭만주의를 나타내는데, 선율적으로 ‘연속적인 주제 변형’을 이끌어냈기 때문이다. ‘연속적인 주제 변형’은 주제를 활용한 작곡원리로서, 처음에 제시된 주제를 연속적으로 변형하여 새로운 아이디어를 전개하는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 작곡기법은 주제의 순환적인 연결을 이루어내어 서정적이고 긴 선율선을 만들어내는 것이다. <비올라 소나타 2번 E♭Major. op, 120>은 브람스 후기 작품으로 ‘연속적인 주제 변형’의 특징이 잘 드러난 작품이다. 이 곡의 화성 구조는 전통적 형식의 틀을 유지하고 있지만, 이와는 다르게 주제적인 측면은 ‘연속적인 변형 기법’을 통해 불규칙한 악구구조를 나타내고 있다. 즉, 화성적으로는 악구의 구조가 분명하게 구분되지만, 선율적으로는 처음에 제시된 주제가 끊임없이 변형되고 이것을 연결하여 제시하기 때문에 악구의 구분이 분명하게 드러나지 않는 것이다. 따라서, 이 작품은 브람스의 전통적인 형식과 그 형식 안에서 전개되는 연속적인 변형의 낭만적 기법이 잘 표현된 작품이라고 볼 수 있다.; Brahms is a composer who emphasized classical form which he inherited from Beethoven, unlike Wagner and Liszt who pursued radical and innovative music, in the late 19th century. Though he strictly adhered to the traditional form, Brahms clearly reveals the Romanticism in his works as he derived the variation of theme in terms of rhythm. The 'continuous variation of theme' is a principle of music composition which applies the theme, and means the process of continously the varying the theme, proposed at first, in order to develop new idea. This technique of composition enables the cyclical connection of theme and the formation of lyrical and long melody. <Viola Sonata No. 2 E♭Major. op, 120> reveals the characteristics of 'continuous variation of theme' very clearly which is one of the works created by Brahms in the latter part of his life. The structure of harmony maintains the framework of traditional form, but the aspect of theme possesses an irregular clause structure of through the 'continuous variation of theme' technique. In other words, the clause structure is not conspicuously revealed because the theme which shows at first incessantly changes in melody and is connected for the presentation, although the clause structure is clearly distinguished in terms of harmony. Therefore, this work is deemed to be a good example of the traditional form used by Brahms and the Romanticism-based techniques of continuous variation which is developed in this form.
