괴테 시에 의한 슈베르트, 슈만, 볼프의 <미뇽의 노래> 중 "Kennst du das Land.." 비교 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 19세기에 탄생하여 지금까지도 그 예술적 가치를 높게 평가받고 있는 낭만주의 독일 예술 가곡 가운데, 많은 작곡가에게 영감을 불러 일으켰던 괴테(Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749~1832)의 시 <미뇽의 노래>에 곡을 붙인 낭만주의 독일 예술 가곡을 대표하는 세 작곡가 슈베르트(Franz Schubert, 1797~1828), 슈만(Robert Schumann, 1810~1856) 그리고 볼프(Hugo wolf, 1860~1903)의 작품을 시와 음악과의 관계를 중심으로 비교 연구한다. 시와 음악과의 관계에 대하여 자세히 살펴보기 위해 4개의 시 가운데 가장 널리 알려진 "당신은 아시나요, 저 레몬 꽃 피는 나라를"(Kennst du das Land, wo die Zitronen bluhn)만을 선택하여 같은 시에 붙인 가곡들을 시의 리듬과 음악적 리듬의 관계, 음형을 통한 시어의 표현, 그리고 피아노 파트에서 나타난 음악적 표현의 세 가지 관점으로 나누어 비교, 연구하면서 시가 내포하는 의미를 각 작곡가가 어떠한 음악적 기법으로 실현하고 있는지 보고, 이를 통해 각 작곡가의 해석에 따른 표현의 공통점과 차이점을 고찰하고자 한다. 이렇게 세 작곡가들의 동일한 시에 의한 작품의 비교, 분석을 통하여 작곡가들이 음악을 통해 나타내고자 했던 시와 음악의 일치가 어떠한 것인지 여러 가지 관점에서 연구하여 작곡가의 주관적인 시 해석에 따라 음악은 다양한 모습으로 전개될 수 있으며, 시와 음악은 분리할 수 없는 상호 보완적인 매개체들로 밀접하게 연결되어 있음을 알 수 있을 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 예술 가곡의 음악적 측면만이 아니라 문학적 측면, 즉 시의 의미는 물론 시의 형식 요소까지 이해하고, 시인의 의도와 나아가서 작곡가의 의도까지도 파악하여 연주한다면, 청자들에게도 진정한 예술 가곡의 가치를 알릴 수 있을 것이다.; Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Hugo Wolf are the three famous composers in the 19 century. These composers have in common written a song for a famous poetry of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Mignon's song. This thesis mainly compare these three songs with respect to the relationship between the poetry and the song. We in particular select the phrase of "Kennst du das Land, wo die Zitronen bluhn" for the detail comparison of the three songs. The focus is on the points of the relationship between the poetry's rhythm and the song's rhythm, the expression of the poetry language, the musical expression revealed in the piano part. As a result it is possible to understand the similarity and the difference among the three composers. Throughout the comparison we are able to conclude the poetry and the music are closely related each other. For instance, songs composed from the same origin of the poetry may have a different expression depending upon subjective perception of a composer. Furthermore, it turns out to be possible to reveal the real value of the song to the audience if a singer understands the meaning of the poetry in advance.
