Abstract
Kim, Yoe-jeung made her debut through 『Hyundaimoonhak』in 1968. Since then, she has published 10 volumes of her poems and received 9 different awards. It shows how rigorously she has been writing and the awards themselves show the high evaluation about her work. Unfortunately, however, there has not been a serious study on her poems. It seems that it comes from the opportunism of the critics or researchers and the wrong practice of mannerism. This paper started with the recognition of these problems. I examined Kim's poetry in the characteristics of her poetic world. The results are as follows. An important characteristic of Kim's poetry is that it shows her poetic journey toward self-identity. The journey is of three different kinds: (1) the search for self-identity, (2) the will of conquest, and (3) the longing for the nature. She finds out the imperfect self through self-reflection in her early works. And, she tries to overcome this limitation through the consciousness of abreaction and the consciousness of atonement. However, it is doomed to failure because she is an imperfect human being after all. Here comes the will of flight. But she soon realizes that this also cannot go beyond the reality. Now, she longs for the nature, the new type. The nature is pure space which is on the other side of the imperfect self and corrupt reality. She arrives at self-identity by assimilating herself to the nature.
