Julie Wylie의 유아음악교육 프로그램에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 뉴질랜드 Canterbury University에 재직 중인 음악교육가 Julie Wylie의 유아음악교육 프로그램인 Musical Parenting의 이론과 실제를 연구하여 한국에 이 프로그램을 소개한 것이다. 2006년 6월30일~2006년 7월1일 양일동안 Julie Wylie가 내한하여 국립중앙박물관에서 유아들과 부모들, 유아음악 교육가들을 대상으로 다섯 차례의 워크숍을 진행하였으나 이에 대한 연구와 보고가 없다. Musical Parenting 프로그램은 Julie Wylie가 1992년에 설립한 Musical Parenting Association에서 만들어진 유아음악교육 프로그램으로 여러 차례의 회의를 거쳐 수정, 보완된 Julie Wylie의 유아음악교육 프로그램으로 유아의 음악적 능력의 발달, 음악의 생활화, 부모와의 상호관계증진, 음악을 통한 다른 영역의 발달을 도모하는 것에 중점을 두고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Julie Wylie의 논문과 여러 관계문헌을 통하여 조사하는 문헌 연구 방법에 의하여 다음과 같은 내용을 연구하였다. 첫째, 이론적 배경으로 유아음악교육의 의의 및 중요성과 유아기의 음악 발달 특성을 고찰한다. 둘째, Julie Wylie의 음악교육철학을 고찰하고, Musical Parenting 프로그램의 교수 원리와 이론에 대하여 연구한다. 셋째, Musical Parenting 프로그램의 실제를 구체적으로 기술하려고 한다. 이와 같은 내용을 연구한 결과, Julie Wylie는 다음과 같은 음악교육철학을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 음악은 조기에 교육되어야 한다. 둘째, 음악은 놀이를 통해 습득되어져야 한다. 셋째, 가정에서의 음악활동을 장려하여 부모와 유아간의 상호작용을 증진시켜야 한다. 넷째, 유아들이 다양한 문화의 음악을 경험하도록 해야 한다. 다섯째, 음악과 교사는 유아의 창의성 발달을 도와야 한다. 여섯째, 음악은 생활화가 되어야 한다. 이러한 교육철학을 바탕으로 만들어진 Musical Parenting 프로그램은 반복을 통한 놀이중심의 유아음악교육 프로그램으로 신체표현을 통한 음악을 통해 유아의 음악성을 계발시킬 뿐 아니라 창의성, 사회성, 자기 정체성 및 인지, 신체, 언어 발달을 도모한다. 또한 음악을 통해 유아가 부모 또는 교사와 특별한 상호 관계를 맺고 보다 나은 유대감을 유지하는데 중점을 두고 있다. 놀이를 통해 모든 유아들이 자신의 소리, 감각 작용, 시각, 후각, 촉각을 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 하며, 자신과 학습에 대해 보다 긍정적인 감정을 가질 수 있도록 돕고, 유아들 스스로 음악적 아이디어를 향상시켜 음악을 일상생활과 다른 영역의 학습을 돕는 데에 이용하는 것을 배우도록 돕는다. Musical Parenting 프로그램의 교육내용은 노래 부르기, 듣기, 동작 활동, 창작 활동, 행동, 악기연주, 악기 만들기, 그룹 활동, 극적인 활동, 노래 만들기의 10가지로 구분하여 제시하였으며, 각 교육 활동의 실제를 목표, 준비물, 활동내용, 유의점으로 구분하여 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 노래 부르기에서는 ‘Hello Song’과 ‘Twinkle twinkle little star’와 ‘Stone Symphony’를 듣기에서는 ‘Special sounds day’과 ‘Water music’, 동작 활동에서는 ‘One elephant’와 ‘Up and down’을 창작활동에서는 ‘Old mcdonald’와 ‘Butterfly’를, 행동에서는 ‘Massage Song’과 ‘Walk and Stop’을, 악기연주에서는 ‘We are making music together’와 ‘Echo song’를, 악기 만들기에서는 ‘Shake-a-shaker’와 ‘Down at the beach’를, 그룹 활동에서는 ‘Parachute’와 ‘The wheels on the bus’를, 극적인 놀이에서는 ‘Foot play’와 ‘The cat and the pussycat’을, 노래 만들기에서는 ‘Change the rhymes’와 ‘Question and answer’를 제시하였다. 본 논문의 가치와 의의를 스스로 평가하자면 Julie Wylie의 음악교육 프로그램인 Musical Parenting을 한국에 소개함으로써, 앞으로 Musical Parenting에 대한 더 많은 연구와 실험을 통해 한국음악교육 현장에 본 프로그램이 적용되게 하는데 그 기초를 마련한 것이다.; This study examined about the theory and the application of Julie Wylie’s child music education program：Musical Parenting in Canterbury University in New Zealand. Julie Wylie enforced five workshops in the national museum of Korea to the children, parents and educators on June, 30 and July,1 2006, but there is no study on Musical Parenting program in Korea. Musical Parenting program was created in the Musical Parenting Association which was established by Julie Wylie on 1992. The program was revised several times. Julie Wyllie’s child music program focuses on the development of musical ability, the adaptation of music in real life, the improvement of mutual relationship with parents and the development of other fields through the music. This study examined as following through her thesis and various literatures about her study, First, the child music education’s meaning and importance was examined. Also, the characteristic of musical development for the children was analyzed. Second, Julie Wylie’s philosophy about music education, teaching principle and theory of Musical Parenting program was studied. Third, the actual case of Musical Parenting program was introduced in the concrete. It was found that Julie Wylie had philosophy about music education as same as following according the result of this study. First, the music education should be enforced early. Second, the music education should be enforced through playing. Third, the interaction between the parents and children should be developed through the musical practice at home. Fourth, the children should be offered and experience various types of music. Fifth, the music and educator should help the development of children’s creativity. Sixth, the music should be accepted in the life environment extensively. It was examined that the Musical Parenting program with these educational philosophies was playing-oriented through the repetition. The music parenting program developed the children’s musical ability as well as creativity, sociality, identity, recognition, body and language. Playing focused on strengthening the ties between the children and parents or teachers through the music. It was examined that all children could understand their own voice, senses of sight, smell and touch easily, could have positive attitude about oneself and learning and could learn more easily about other fields by improving musical ideas through playing. It was found that 10 items such as singing, listening, movement, creating, behavior, playing instruments, making instruments, group activity, dramatic play and making a song were represented in the contents of Musical Parenting program. The goal, preparatory method and caution for each item were examined as following. ‘Hello Song’, ‘Twinkle twinkle little star’ and ‘Stone Symphony’ were used for the category of singing, ‘Special sounds day’ and ‘Water music by listening, ‘One elephant’ and ‘Up and down’ by movement, ‘Old mcdonald’ and ‘Butterfly’ by creating, ‘Massage Song’ and ‘Walk and Stop’ by the behavior, ‘We are making music together’ and ‘Echo song’ by playing instruments, ‘Shake-a-shaker’ and ‘Down at the beach’ by making instruments, ‘Parachute’ and ‘The wheels on the bus’ by group activity, ‘Foot play’ and ‘The cat and the pussycat’ by dramatic play and finally ‘Change the rhymes’ and ‘Question and answer’ by making a song. If the value and meaning of this study is stated, it provided the basis for the further studies through a lot of studies and examinations to utilize Musical Parenting program in Korean music education field.
