항해 홍길주의 독서론 연구

Abstract

이 논문은 평생 동안 讀書之士의 삶을 살며 독서와 저술에만 매진하였던 항해 홍길주의 독서론에 대한 연구이다. 항해의 산문 작품 속에 내재된 텍스트의 개념과 독서의 범주에 대한 그만의 독특한 생각을 분석하여 정리하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저, 항해의 방대한 저술 중에서 독서에 대한 작품을 대상으로 전체적인 독서의식을 고찰하고, 크게는 항해의 독서론과 독서의 방법으로 구분하여 연구하였다. 항해의 독서론을 요약한다면, 글자와 문장에 얽매이지 않는 무한히 열려 있는 독서관이라 할 수 있다. 天地事物과 日用쇄細事務의 모든 현상들이 하나의 텍스트가 되고, 그것을 보고 듣고 느끼는 모든 행위를 ‘독서’라고 인식하는 것이다. 변화하는 자연의 조화는 물론이며, 사람들의 일상적인 대화나 행동을 듣고 보는 것도 독서라는 범주에 포함시키는 것이다. 그러므로 스승의 문하에서 스승의 일상을 보고 본받아서 깨달음을 얻는 경지에 이를 수 있다면, 이보다 훌륭한 독서는 없다고 단언하는 항해의 열린 독서의식을 살펴보았다. 독서의 방법에 대한 연구에서는 다독과 정독에 대한 제한을 두지 않은 유연하고 합리적인 사고를 논의하였으며, 경전과 역사서를 중점으로 읽되 자신에게 돌이켜 반성과 깨달음의 계기로 삼을 수 있다면 사소한 소품문이나 비루한 글들도 읽을 필요가 있다는 다양한 독서 선택을 권장하였다. 또한 지양해야할 독서의 병폐로 단장취의의 독서를 들어 일부분만으로 전체를 평가하는 오류를 범하지 말아야 함을 지적하였다. 반면 글쓴이의 작문의도를 바르게 인지하고 독자의 생각을 작자의 뜻에 맞추어, 있는 그대로의 뜻을 온전히 받아들일 수 있어야 함을 강조하였다. 마지막으로, 옛 글을 그대로 모방하는 당시의 문풍을 비판하며 옛 것을 받아들이되 그 뜻과 정신만 배우고 형식과 말을 똑같이 모방해서는 안 된다는 견해를 살펴보았다. 결론에서는 본문의 내용들을 요약정리하고 항해의 이러한 독서관과 독서방법들이 현재의 독서교육에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 수 있을 것인가에 대하여 간략하게 논의해 보았다. 기이한 발상과 개성 넘치는 문장력으로 주목 받는 항해의 문학 속에서 독서론에 관한 그의 생각과 논의들을 포괄적으로 살펴볼 수 있었다는 데 본 논문의 의의를 둔다.; The purpose of the treatise is to make an investigation into the reading theory of Gil-Ju, Hong who had striven to write and read a book in his whole life. I analyze and arrange his unique opinion about reading category and concept of the text that inherent in his prose literature. In order to this, first I considered an overall reading consciousness on the subject of the literature about reading among his voluminous work. After dividing into the reading concept and method, then I investigated. Hang-Hae's reading concept can be summarized that there's no boundary of a letter or a writing and that is eternally opened. Everything in the nature can be a text, even the phenomenon is very usual and minor. And he recognizes 'Reading' is all kind of looking, hearing and feeling about that. He includes the Harmony of changeable nature, hearing and looking about daily conversation into the category of reading. He affirmed that the most worthy reading is awakening from one's mentor by taking a close look under his instruction. therefore I considered Hang-Hae's opened reading concept. In the study of a reading method, he discussed about reasonable and pliable thought that has no boundary of extensive reading and intensive reading. And he emphasis on reading the scriptures and historical books, if the reader can get an awakening from that. He encouraged to choice rational reading because even a small piece of writing or despicable text can serve as a major momentum to introspect He warned thatthe reader must do not judge all writing by a small text. And he stressed that reader must perceive an intention of the writer and get his intact meaning. Lastly, I discern his opinion, the reader can follow classic literature in criticizing their imitative literary form. The reader can learn only the meaning and mind from the writer, but imitating the style or form of writings is not allowed. In the conclusion, I summarized contents of text and briefly discussed how the Hang-Hae's concept and method of reading can affect present reading education. In Hang-Hae's literature beingworthy of his peculiar idea and distinctive writing ability, I could inquire his thoughtand discussion about the Hang-Hae's reading theory. That is the meaning of this thesis
