ERP 시스템 활용이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

Abstract

It is not easy to measure performance of ERP system in small/medium companies. It is because each company has different circumstances and measuring standards and it is not easy to show performances in numeric figures. This study reexamined the basic concept, characteristics, and backgrounds of ERP system and discussed how ERP system is utilized to influence corporate performance by surveying small/medium companies that have adopted ERP. To accomplish this purpose, this study established a study model and a hypothesis and surveyed 68 small/medium companies that have adopted ERP system. Among the companies surveyed, 85.3% have increased in sales with the use of ERP system. However, 14.7% experienced a decrease in sales after they have adopted ERP. It is because their system is not complete and has not been fully developed. Lack of professional manpower that specializes in operating ERP and insufficient system training could also be the reason of their unsatisfactory performances. Overall participation in corporate environment and standardization in the study model have positive influence on the utilization of ERP. As it was found that CEO's support is helpful but CEO's participation is not helpful, it was proven that the CEO's active leadership is required for successful application of ERP. The hypothesis that "Corporate strategies will have significant influence on the utilization of ERP" was proven false. This is thought to be because those who are using ERP system are not influenced by the ERP strategies established by the management. As for the performance after utilization of ERP system, it was found that ERP system has internal impact on productivity and standards and external impact on customer relations. As survey forms were distributed and collected within a short period of time, gathered data of low quality had to be used. Thus, accurate analysis of each category was difficult. It is also possible that responders' subjective opinions were also influential. If interviewing and visiting could be used to conduct the survey, the results of the study would be more accurate. I hope that such limitations could be overcome to help more small/medium companies utilize ERP system for more specific and practical purposes. This study reverified the importance of ERP in small/medium businesses as computers are very popular and information systems take a huge part of running a corporate these days. Considering that many companies in Korea are willing to adopt ERP system in the future, the findings of this study would be a helpful guide to researchers and companies that are interested in ERP system.; 본 연구는 ERP 전반에 관한 기본적인 개념과 ERP 시스템의 특성과 도입 배경 등을 재검토 해보고 ERP를 구현한 중소기업을 통한 설문으로 ERP 시스템의 활용정도와 기업 성과에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 연구 모형과 가설을 설정하고 ERP 시스템을 도입한 중소기업 68개의 업체를 대상으로 검증하였다. 설문 기업 전체의 85.3%는 ERP 시스템 활용으로 매출액이 증가한 반면 14.7%로는 오히려 감소하여 ERP의 성과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 시스템 구축과 활용이 아직 완전하지 못하고 시행 초기인 점에 기인한 것으로 판단한다. 또한 ERP 시스템 운용을 위한 전문 인력의 부족과 ERP 시스템 교육의 부재도 한 원인으로 지적할 수 있다. 연구모형으로 내세웠던, 기업환경의 전사적 참여와 업무 표준화 등은 ERP 활용정도에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다. 또한 최고경영자의 지원은 ERP의 활용정도에 유의하나 최고경영자의 참여는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는다고 분석됨으로써 경영자의 활발한 리더쉽이 요구됨을 증명하였다. 또한 “기업의 전략은 ERP 활용정도에 유의한 영향을 미칠 것이다” 에 대한 가설은 기각되었다. 이는 ERP 시스템을 활용 중인 실무자들은 기업의 최고경영자들이 내세운 ERP 전략에는 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 판단된다. ERP 시스템의 활용정도에 따른 도입성과는 기업의 내부적으로 업무 생산성 향상 및 업무 표준이 향상되어 내부적으로 유의하며, 고객 관계가 강화 되는 등 외부적 성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 설문 결과를 분석 시 짧은 시간에 설문을 요구하고 회수하려다 보니 수집된 데이터의 품질이 미약한 것을 활용 할 수밖에 없었고, 각 항목을 통한 정교한 분석이 어려웠고, 이는 연구의 한계로 볼 수 있다. 더 많은 자료를 이용하여 좀 더 오랜 시간 동안에 분석을 시도할 필요가 있겠다. 본 연구는 컴퓨터 도입이 일반화되고 정보시스템 업무가 기업에서 차지하는 비중이 매우 놓은 현실에서 ERP 활용의 중요성을 다시 한번 조명하였다. 이러한 관점에서 향후 국내 기업이 ERP 시스템을 도입을 고려 할 때 기초자료로서의 가치가 있다고 할 수 있겠다. 또한 향후 연구자와 ERP를 활용하고자 하는 기업체의 담당자들에게 좋은 방향을 제시 할 것이다.
