Abstract
This study is about how weather conditions and days of the week affect the usage rate of tourism information systems and patterns of users' search. In order to get basic data, I have analyzed a-year-long website access data of 21,655,089 visitors of the Korea Tourism Organization. So as to testify study model, I chose precipitation factors including rain, snow, cloud amounts as a weather variable and seasons, holidays as a day variable. Following is the summary of the study result and findings. It was rain that makes a biggest impact on daily visits as a weather factor and season as a day factor. The amounts of rain and cloud affect the number of visits positively whereas snow amount does apposite. Season and holiday apparently make a positive effect on the number of visits. Comparatively the numbers of the visits are relatively higher in spring and summer than those of fall and winter, and summer has biggest visits. Holiday affects negatively all the searches except for reports. It can be explained that most Korean people go on summer vacation and therefore summer has the biggest record of it. With five working day adopted and winter sports popularized in Korea, winter has more visitors than fall of events and festivals. According to the findings, when it comes to rates of visits, there exists the day of week effect and weather effect in the tourism information world like other consumer industries, and day factors like holiday and season can make a lot difference. Those who provide tourism information and are involved in the tourism industry can utilize this study result to run the systems more effectively, and distribute marketing resources and set up marketing strategies more profitably by making the best use of marketing tools and strategies more suitable for weather and time. It is expected to help you to provide tourism information effectively, and promote usage of the tourism information and develop the tourism industry.
