한국 근·현대 영화극장의 공간특성 변화에 관한 연구

Abstract

우리나라는 개항 이후 시대적 변화를 겪으면서 산업화로 인하여 경제?사회와 더불어 건축?문화 등에서도 많은 발전을 이루게 되었다. 특히, '86 아시안게임과 '88 서울 올림픽이 개최되면서 본격적인 국제적 문화 교류가 증가하게 되었다. 이는 경제?사회는 물론 건축?문화?예술?관광분야까지 고루 영향을 주어, 다방면에 급속한 성장의 계기가 되었다. 이러한 경제?사회적 성장은 국민들의 생활수준과 삶의 질을 향상 시켰고, 그 결과 문화와 예술 분야에 대한 문화적 관심이 자연스럽게 증가하게 되었다. 이러한 관심은 문화?예술의 발전을 이루게 하였고, 문화?예술의 공연장인 극장에도 발전을 가져오게 되었다. 그리고 지금까지 문화?예술 발전을 통해 극장의 공간은 지속적으로 변화와 성장이 이루어지고 있다. 극장은 크게 음악 및 무용, 연극 등 공연을 목적으로 하는 공연극장과 영화상영을 위한 영화극장으로 세분화되어 분리되는데, 관람객들은 이러한 문화공간을 여가시간을 이용하여 각자의 취향에 따라 즐기고 있다. 한 통계자료에 따르면, 여가시간 활용에 있어서 다양한 문화생활 중 영화극장의 이용이 가장 큰 비율을 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 여가 시간이 늘어나고, 문화생활을 즐기는 사람들이 늘어남에 따라 특히 영화극장을 찾는 관람객들이 증가하게 되었다. 영화가 많은 사람들의 관심의 대상이 되면서, 이러한 관심은 영화는 물론 영화극장의 공간 또한 많은 발전을 이루게 하였다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 문화예술의 공간 중 우리나라 극장문화의 중심인 영화극장을 연구의 범위로 선정하였으며, 시대적 상황과 함께 영화극장의 성립배경을 시대별로 정리하였다. 그리고 영화극장이 도입되고, 발전되기까지의 시대적 흐름에 따라 변화된 영화극장 공간의 특성을 분석하여 공간의 발전 변화를 분석하고자 하였다. 분석을 위한 영화극장의 시대적인 범위는 1900년대 이후부터 2007년까지로 한정하였으며, 영화극장 공간 변화의 분석 요소인 공간의 구성과 형태, 그리고 디자인특성 요소를 이론적 고찰을 통하여 추출하였고, 그 특성요소들의 특징에 대한 이론을 정의하며 전개하였다. 그리고 시대의 변천사를 대표하는 영화극장을 선별하여 이론적 고찰을 토대로 변화된 영화극장의 공간을 분석하였다. 그 연구 분석에 따른 결과로, 단일상영공간을 보유하고 있던 근대시대의 영화극장이 다양한 관람객들의 욕구 충족과 영화산업의 발달로 인하여 복합상영공간을 보유한 영화극장으로 변화되었음을 알 수 있었고, 편의를 위한 서비스 공간 및 동선에서도 다양하게 발전되고 변화되었음을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 현대에 와서 영화극장은 단지 영화상영의 목적이 아닌 여가생활을 즐길 수 있고, 관람객들에게 맞춰진 서비스를 추구하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 현재 영화극장은 국민들의 문화생활에 있어서 중요한 수단으로 자리 잡아 가고 있다. 문화라는 큰 틀 속에 극장 공간의 발달은 보다 많은 관람객들이 문화생활을 접할 수 있는 동기가 될 수 있으며, 더 나아가 문화예술의 큰 발전을 가져 올 수 있는 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 1900년대 이후에 나타난 영화극장의 시초(始初)를 찾고, 당시 영화극장들이 도입된 시대와 사회적 배경을 토대로 분석하였으며, 영화극장 공간을 구성하고 있는 요소와 형태 및 디자인 특성에 대한 고찰을 통하여 시대의 흐름에 따라서 변화된 영화극장 공간을 분석하여 정리하는데 기초적 목적을 두고자 한다. 그리고 이러한 분석 연구는 추후 극장 공간 연구의 기초 자료로 제공하며, 다양화된 극장의 활성화와 문화 공간 발전에 있어서 바탕이 되고자 한다.; After the opening of a port, as our country had been undergoing many changes, it has developed very quickly in every phase of construction & culture as well as economics & society owing to the industrialization. Especially, as the opening of the '86 Asian Game & the '88 Olympic Game in Seoul, International cultural exchange has increased in earnest. It was the rapid growth opportunity in many directions as that has influence on construction, culture, art, and tourism evenly, to say nothing of economics & society. These economic & social growth have improved the quality of the level of life, with the consequence that, the cultural concerns about the section of culture and art have increased in a very natural way. These concerns have been the motive power for the cultural & art development, the cultural & art development also have been the making of the development of theater, where culture & art is presented. Up to now, Theater and space of theater have been developed as continued to thrive and develop. Theater can be classified broadly into two groups. one is the performing theater with the object of the performance for the music, the dance and the drama. The other is movie theater for a movie. A statistics indicates that movie theater among the various cultural life is the largest percentage in the use of spare time. As the increasing spare time and the increasing people are going to enjoy culture life, especially the number of spectators have been increased to the movie theater. As the movie becomes a matter of concern for many people, these concerns have led to many advances in the space of theater as well as the movie. Therefore the movie theater as a scope of research has been chosen in this research, which is the center of our culture. And a background of the foundation about the movie theater and the situation of the times is described as classified by the times. Until growth from introduction of movie theater, the change of spatial development would be analyzed as the spatial characteristics of movie theater is analyzed by the stream of times. For this analysis of movie theater, the time scope is from 1900 till 2007 and the spatial compositions, shapes and the elements of specific character for design are extracted from the theoretical consideration, as an analysis factor of the change of the spatial characteristics, and the theory for the peculiarities about the elements of specific character is defined and is unfolded. As selected the leading movie theaters for the history, the changed space of movie theater is analyzed through the theoretical consideration. The result of analysis shows that modern movie theater with one showing space has changed to the movie theater with multiplex showing space owing to the satisfaction with various spectator's desire and the development of the movie industry. and also, it shows that the service space and the traffic line for convenience are improved and changed variously. That is to say, it shows that the movie theater pursue the service that would suit spectators and could enjoy spare time. Consequently, this study shows that the movie theater secured a position as people's primary means of cultural life. The development of cultural space with culture can be a motive to be able to gather many spectators and furthermore, can bring about a great improvement. In conclusion, the beginning of the movie theater is found out which comes out since 1900. And an age of introduction and the social background at that time are analyzed. The basic purpose of this study is to analyze the changed space of movie theater by the stream of the times and to rearrange it as considered about characteristics of elements and shapes which are consisted of the of movie theater's space. And this study is to provide the fundamental data for an analysis of the movie theater's space after this, and willing to be a background for revitalization of diversified movie theater and for development of cultural space.
