Abstract
BaMgAl_(10)O_(17):Eu^(2+) is widely used as a blue light emitting commercial phosphor for lamp and plasma display panels. The Aerosol Flame Deposition (AFD) was applied to fabricate phosphor particles with spherical shape and in order to improve their luminescent. In this study, BaMgAl10O17:Eu^(2+) particles with nano-size and spherical morphology were successfully synthesized by applying AFD and low temperature post heat treatment. The heat-treated BAM particles exhibited excellent crystallinity and the XRD peaks matched with the commercial BAM phase even though the as-prepared powder were heat-treated at ~400℃ lower temperature than the typical solid state reaction. The effects of various atomization methods, such as ultrasonic atomizer, gas-assisted atomizer in the direct spray configuration and electro-spray atomization method, were investigated. The BAM particles synthesized using electro-spray atomizer was finer and smoother than those synthesized using other atomization methods. Additionally, the effect of precursor solution and various deposition position along flame axis were investigated. It was observed that the precursors prepared from chloride solute exhibited desirable morphology.
