소설과 영화의 서사 구조 비교 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 과거에는 문자로 된 텍스트를 중심으로 이루어지던 서사의 경험이 영상 매체로 변화되는 것에 주목하면서 영화 교육의 중요성을 강조하는 데서 출발점을 삼고 있다. 특히, 영상 매체 중에서도 영화에 주목하여 교육계의 관심이 미비함을 지적하고, 국어국문학계에서 영화가 적극적으로 수용되기를 바라는 일환으로 원작 소설과 영화를 비교 연구하였다. 논의의 범위는 이청준의 소설 『벌레 이야기』와 이창동 감독의 『밀양』으로 제한하였다. Ⅱ장에서 소설과 영화의 상이성을 연구하기 위하여 문자를 통하여 정보를 전달하는 문자 언어와 영상을 통하여 정보를 전달하는 영상 언어에 대하여 알아보고, 교육계에서 매체 교육이 미비함을 지적하여 그 필요성을 강조하였다. 이어서 소설과 영화의 창작 과정의 차이점을 고찰하였다. 소설의 창작과정인 계획하기, 내용 생성하기, 내용 조직하기, 퇴고하기로 나누어 살펴본 후에, 영화의 창작 과정을 준비 단계, 창작 단계, 발표 단계로 세분화하였다. 이 중에서 본격적인 창작 단계인 프로덕션 단계에 대해서 자세하게 검토하였다. 다음 절차로 개별적인 활동이 이루어지는 소설 감상과 집단적인 활동이 이루어지는 영화 감상의 차이점을 분석하였다. 원작 소설과 각색 영화는 우열의 관계가 아니며, 영화는 원작 소설이 있다고 하여도 재창조되어 독창성을 지닌다는 것을 강조하였다. 소설 교육에서 영화 교육으로의 위상의 변화를 검증하기 위해서 영화 교육의 필요성을 강조하여, 영화도 국어국문학계에서 활발한 연구가 진행되어 국어국문학의 한 분야로 받아들여야 한다는 주장을 하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 위에서 살펴본 내용을 바탕으로 실질적인 제재인 『벌레 이야기』와 『밀양』의 서사 구조에 대해서 고찰하였다. 이청준의 작품은 영화로 많이 제작이 되었지만, 『벌레 이야기』에 대한 연구는 거의 찾아 볼 수 없음을 근거로 이 연구의 필요성을 주장하였다. 『벌레 이야기』를 원작으로 제작된 영화 『밀양』은 기존의 원작 소설이 있는 영화들에 비해서 상대적으로 등장인물의 변용과 창조가 활발하게 이루어 졌다는 점을 분석하였다. 소설에서 소극적이었던 주인공은 영화에서 강한 의지를 지닌 새로운 인물로 변용되고, 남편은 ‘종찬’으로 대체되면서 주인공의 절망을 그저 바라보기만 하는 무기력한 인물에서 주인공에게 헌신적이고 무조건적인 사랑을 보내는 인물로 재탄생되었다. 『밀양』은 원작 소설에서 기본 얼개인 한 아이가 유괴되고 그의 어머니가 아이를 끝내 잃게 된 후에, 기독교를 믿게 된다는 이야기를 가져 왔다. 이렇게 영화가 제작되었지만 영화는 재창조의 과정을 거치면서 많은 변화가 일어났다. 즉, 소설에서 영화로 각색이 되면서 시점의 차이가 생기고, 결말이 달라지는 변화를 겪은 것이다. 영화의 제목인 햇볕은 중요한 의미를 지니고 있는데, 신에 대한 믿음의 상징성이 되기도 하고, 신의 존재 유무에 대한 근거로도 사용되고 있다. 그리고 영화의 마지막 장면도 이 비밀스런 햇볕으로 장식되어 햇볕의 중요성이 강조되었다. 이렇게 탄생한 영화에는 몇 가지의 아쉬운 점도 있지만 우리 기독교의 현실을 보여주었다는 점에서 또 다른 의의를 지니고 있다. 소설에서는 비단 기독교만을 대상으로 삼은 것은 아니지만, 영화에서는 집사의 전도에도 끄덕하지 않던 주인공이 스스로 교회의 부흥회에 들어서고 진심으로 믿음을 갖게 된다. 이러한 과정에서 우리나라에서 벌어지는 현실의 기독교가 생생하게 묘사된다. 또한, 과연 신이란 존재하는 것인지, 종교가 인간에게 진정한 위로가 되는 것인지에 대한 의문을 제기하기도 한다.; This study starts at the place where the importance of cinemas education is emphasized, as noticing that the narration's experience made by the written text in the past is being changed to the imaged media. It is indicated that the educational circles' concern is weak, as especially noticing cinemas in the imaged medias, and the novel and the cinema were compared and researched hoping that the Korean literature academic circles will accept cinemas positively. The scope of discussion was restricted to Lee Cheongjun's『Story of Bug』and Lee Changdong's 『Secret Sunshine』. In ChapterⅡ, the importance of cinemas education is emphasized after reviewing the written language and the imaged language. Next, the different point in creating procedure between novels and cinemas was reviewed. The production stage, which is the cinema's creating procedure, was especially focused. Next, the different point in appreciating between novel and cinema was analyzed and it was emphasized that cinemas have originality as being recreated, not having the superior and inferior relation between novels and arranged cinemas. As the necessity of cinemas education is emphasized, it was insisted that cinemas should be accepted as one part of Korean literature academy, being studied actively in Korean literature academic circles. In chapterⅢ, the narration structures of 『Story of Bug』and 『Secret Sunshine』were reviewed. In the cinema,『Secret Sunshine』, which is made from the original work,『Story of Bug』, the characters' acculturation and creation was accomplished more actively than any other arranged cinema. The hero, who was passive in novel, was acculturated to a new person who has a strong will in cinema. And the husband who had been feeble was recreated as a person who gives a dedicated and unconditional love to the hero, being substituted for 'jongchan'. 『Secret Sunshine』brought the basic story from the original novel. But, In the cinema, many changes occurred, for example, the difference in starting time was made and the conclusion became different and so on. Sunshine, which is cinema title, has an important meaning, and is being used as a basis of believing in God and whether God exists or not, also. And the importance of sunshine is emphasized, the last scene of the cinema being decorated with the secret sunshine. Cinema created like it has the value that it shows the our Christian reality, though some missing is felt. In the process that the hero goes to a church by himself and has the true belief, the our Christian reality is shown. Also, it is suggesting questions such as whether God exists or not indeed and whether religion gives consolation to human beings or not.
