- Abstract
- Affected by the minimalism, the textile and fashion fields have a tendency toward changing materials into an extreme simplicity in an attempt to avoid alienation possibly caused in a complicated modern society and express the humans' essential aspects. By analyzing the recent formative characteristics of the post-minimalism embodied in textile arts and fashion materials, in this study, I tried to identify the designers' intentions and present the desirable directions for which textile and fashion materials in the 21st century should be headed. The findings were that in materials for textile works the whole unity through regular repetition was the mainstream characteristic of minimalism and that in fashion materials formative characteristics of minimalism were actively adapted to contemporary changes developing many new materials. It was also found that those materials applied luster, transparency, light etc. to maximize visual effects and that materials allowing for curved beauty and flexibility, such as silk crepe, knitted materials, LYACRA and Spantex, are widely being used.
