한국인과 원어민 강사의 영어수업에 대한 초등생의 불안감 및 동기에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 영어 사설학원의 한국인 강사와 원어민 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업(Teaching English Through English)이 초등학교 5,6학년 학생들의 불안과 동기에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 조사하는 것이다. 연구 대상은 초등학교 5,6학년 85명이었으며, 각 강사들의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업에서 연구 대상자들의 불안감과 동기 측정을 위하여 설문지에 응답하도록 하였다. 각 설문지의 결과는 SPSS 12.0을 사용하여 빈도분석, 기술통계로 분석 되었다. 본 연구에서는 네 가지의 연구 과제를 제시하였다. 첫째, 초등학교 5,6학년 학생들의 영어 학습 불안감이 한국인 영어 강사가 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업과 원어민 강사 수업에서 어떻게 다르게 나타나는가? 둘째, 초등학교 5,6학년 학생들의 영어 학습 동기가 한국인 영어 강사가 영어로 진행하는 영어수업과 원어민 강사수업에서 어떻게 다르게 나타나는가? 셋째, 원어민 강사와 한국인 강사 각각의 영어로 진행하는 영어수업(TETE)에서 불안감 설문지 문항에 대한 학습자 응답비율이 서로 다르게 나타나는 주요항목은 무엇인가? 넷째, 원어민 강사와 한국인 강사 각각의 동기 설문지 문항에 대한 학습자 응답비율이 서로 다르게 나타나는 주요항목은 무엇인가? 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 한국인 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업, 원어민 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업, 두 경우 모두 학습자는 비교적 낮은 불안감을 나타냈으며 각 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업은 학습자의 불안감 변동에 크게 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 한국인 강사가 하는 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업에서는 점수가 높은 점수부터 의사소통 이해의 불안감, 시험불안감, 부정적 평가에 대한 불안감 순으로 나타났고 원어민 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업에서는 의사소통 이해의 불안감, 부정적 평가, 시험 불안감 순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 한국인 강사와 원어민 강사의 영어로 하는 영어 수업(TETE)은 학습자의 동기에 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 원어민 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어수업(TETE)은 한국인 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어수업보다 전반적으로 학습자 동기에 좀 더 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 넷째, 한국인 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업(TETE)에서는 학습자의 외적 동기, 내적 동기가 비슷하게 나타났으며, 원어민 강사의 영어로 진행하는 영어 수업의 경우, 학습자의 내적 동기가 외적동기보다 높게 나타났다. 따라서 한국인 강사의 영어 수업에서 영어수업을 하는 변인으로 내적인, 외적인 이유의 구분을 하기 힘들었지만, 원어민 강사의 영어수업은 외적인 이유보다는 내적인 이유로 영어 학습을 하게하는 변인으로 작용함을 알 수 있다.; The purpose of the present study is to investigate the influences of language teacher's nationality (Korean Teacher, Native English Teacher) in TETE (Teaching English Through English) on learner anxiety and motivation. The subject of this study were 85 elementary school students in the 5^(th), 6^(th) grade. To test their anxiety and motivation in each teacher's TETE, the subjects completed five kinds of questionnaires. The research data was analyzed by frequency analysis and descriptive analysis, using SPSS 12.0. For this study. four research questions are suggested: First, how does the language teacher's nationality influence on learner anxiety? Second, how does the language teacher's nationality influence on learner motivation? Third, is there a big difference between the distribution of students' response to the anxiety questionnaire in Korean teacher's TETE and in native English teacher's TETE? Fourth, is there a big difference between the distribution of students' response to the motivation questionnaire in Korean teacher's TETE and in native English teacher's TETE? The results of this study are as follows: First, the level of learner anxiety both in Korean teacher's TETE and in native English teacher's TETE is low and language teacher's nationality has few impacts on learner anxiety. Second, in the order of high anxiety score, the subjects of this study shows communication apprehension anxiety, test anxiety and fear of negative social evaluation in Korean teacher's TETE whereas they display communication apprehension anxiety, fear of negative social evaluation and test anxiety in native English teacher's TETE. Third, learner motivation is not affected by the teacher's nationality. The level of their motivation is a bit higher in native English teacher's TETE than in Korean teacher's TETE. Fourth, it demonstrates that extrinsic motivation is similar with intrinsic motivation in Korea teacher's TETE and intrinsic motivation is higher than extrinsic motivation in native English teacher's TETE. Fifth, Korean teacher's TETE plays a role of a variable that causes the students to study English for extrinsic reasons and intrinsic reasons and native English teacher's TETE works as a variable that causes them to study English for intrinsic reasons.
