조선후기 한문서사의 성 담론

Abstract

본 연구는 한문소설 〈절화기담〉과 〈포의교집〉 및 한문희곡 〈북상기〉와 〈백상루기〉를 통해 조선후기 한문 서사 장르에서의 성 담론을 살펴보는 데에 목적이 있다. 조선은 유교를 지배 이데올로기로 채택하고, 그에 따라 남녀의 性을 강력하게 통제했다. 그 결과 성은 전면에 드러내서는 안 되는 것, 감추고 부끄러워해야 하는 것으로 인식되어 왔다. 문학 작품 속에서도 남녀의 성은 대부분 유교적 교훈을 설파하기 위한 도구로 사용되었고, 그 때마다 희화화되거나 조롱의 대상으로 취급되었다. 조선후기에 경제가 발달하면서 성이 상품화되었고, 하층 계급의 여성들이 성적 주체성을 점차 자각하게 되었다. 한편 중국에서 수입된 음사소설이 유행했고, 김성탄의 문학론은 조선의 문인들의 창작 및 독서 경향에 커다란 영향을 미쳤다. 그에 따라 조선에서도 색정적인 문학작품이 탄생할 수 있는 토양이 마련되었다. 특히 조선후기에 등장한 〈절화기담〉, 〈포의교집〉, 〈북상기〉. 〈백상루기〉는 성을 터부시하던 기존의 가치관에서 완전히 벗어나, 인간의 정과 욕망을 긍정하는 서술 태도를 견지함과 동시에 전에 없이 충격적인 성애의 현장을 대담하게 묘사한다. 또 가부장 사회에서 늘 타자로만 존재해왔던 여성의 욕망을 적극적으로 그려냄으로써 조선후기 성과 욕망의 문제를 인간의 자아실현으로까지 연결시키고 있다. 이 작품들은 기혼 남녀의 불륜, 노인과 소녀의 정사 등 파격적인 관계를 그려내고 있지만 윤리적인 책임이나 갈등 보다는 인물들의 욕망을 실현시키는 데 집중함으로써, 다양하고 입체적인 성 담론을 형성하고 있다. 조선후기에 이 처럼 성을 다룬 한문 작품들은 아직 많지 않다. 그러나 아직 발굴되지 않은 더 많은 작품들이 어딘가에서 연구자의 손길을 기다리고 있을 것이다. 이러한 작품군의 발굴 및 연구를 통해 우리 문학사에 내재되어 있는 근대의 맹아를 탐색해볼 수 있을 것이다.; This Study is aim to find out a sexual discourse at chinese-letter narrative in late Joseon Dynasty, by researching Jeolhwagidam(折花奇談), Poegyojip(布衣交集), Buksanggi(北廂記) and Baeksangrugi(百祥樓記). Joseon Dynasty adopted Confucianism as an ideology for the effective rule. The confucianism prescribes a sex to be unrevealed. And at most cases a sex was used to emphasize the confucian morality in the literature. In late Joseon Dynasty, according to the development of the monetary economy, a sex became a product. Women realized their sexual identity, pornographic novels from china were popular among the intelligent people. And the writers started to write novels that include sexual events. Jeolhwagidam, Poegyojip, Buksanggi and Baeksangrugi were those ones. They try to descript a sexual desire as a positive instinct of a human being. And they also try to descript a naked sex between man and woman who are out of a confucian morality. For example married man and married woman (not husband and wife), or old man and young girl (a noble man and a prostitute). The writers never blame their moral corruption, they only focus the sexual desire. So we can find out brand-new trend of A sexual discourse at chinese-letter narrative in late Joseon Dynasty, from these novels and dramas.
