초등학교 영어교육에 있어서 학부모들의 인식과 요구분석

Abstract

본 연구는 초등학생들의 학습에 있어서 큰 영향을 미치고 있는 학부모들이 현행 초등학교 영어교육에 대해 어떠한 인식 및 요구를 가지고 있는지 알아보고 그 결과를 근거로 사교육 발달과의 연계성 유무를 검증해보고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 공교육의 경쟁력 강화를 위해서 효과적인 초등학교 영어교육의 나아갈 방향을 제시하는데 그 의의가 있다. 위의 연구를 위해 초등학교 영어교육에 대한 학부모들의 태도·인식 및 요구 분석과 관련한 기존의 연구결과들을 분석, 보완하여 학부모들 대상의 설문지를 작성하였고 서울시와 경기지역 일부 초등학교 학부모들을 모집단으로 하여 333명에게 설문조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 통계 패키지 PASW(구 SPSS) Statistics 17.0을 이용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 밝혀진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 학부모의 자녀에 대한 영어교육에 대한 인식은 매우 높은 편이며 다양한 방법으로 자녀의 영어교육에 관여하고 있었다. 둘째, 초등학교 영어 수업에 대한 학부모들의 인식 및 요구를 분석한 결과 학부모들은 현행 초등학교 영어수업의 개선을 원하고 있었으며 특히 영어수업 시에 반 별로 적정인원을 소수로 유지할 것을 무엇보다 희망하고 있었다, 셋째, 기존 학부모들의 요구 분석 결과를 반영한 가상의 학교 수업 모형 안을 제시하여 학부모들의 만족도를 조사한 결과, 82%의 대다수의 학부모들이 설문에 제시된 학교 영어 수업 모형 안에 만족하고 있었다. 또한 만족한 학부모들 중 약 50%의 학부모들이 추가 사교육을 시키지 않겠다고 응답하여 학교 영어 수업에 대한 학부모들의 만족도가 자녀들의 추가적인 사교육 결정에 영향을 미치고 있음을 나타내었다. 넷째, 학교 영어 수업 모형 안에 만족한다고 응답한 학부모들 중 32%의 학부모들은 우수한 사교육 프로그램의 정보를 ‘주변 사람들’로부터 제공받았을 때, 자녀를 사교육 프로그램에 참가시키겠다고 응답하였다. 이는 자녀의 사교육 결정 여부를 판단할 때, 학부모들에게 최선의 정보를 제공해 줄 수 있는 공신력 있는 정보망이나 신뢰할 수 있는 학습 상담기관 마련의 필요성을 보여주었다.; The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions and demands of the parents who have crucial roles in the English education of elementary school students. Based on the analysis, it explained that the parents influenced the selection of private English education as their perceptions and demands. This study tried to propose various development directives for enhancing the competitiveness of the elementary school English education. For this purpose, the prior research got resulted from preceding researches examined on the perceptions and demands of the elementary school English education. Next, for the survey research, parents of elementary school students with partial regions of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were taken as the population. A total of 333 parents were selected for the questionnaired-based survey, and the collected data were analyzed using PASW 17.0. The results could be summarized as follows. First, the parents had much educational perceptions of degrees in their children's English education and they participated in their education in various ways. Second, the result showed the parents were dissatisfied with many things such as the lower grades introduction of elementary English education, the shortage of weekly class time, the lack of native-speaking teachers, and the reducing class size. Third, the great majority of the parents were satisfied with the model in elementary school English class, and less than half of them revealed that they would have no additional private English education. Fourth, it suggested that government exert an effort in providing more professional and systematic consultation and information to the parents so as to guide them toward the proper understanding on the elementary education. Results of this study were somewhat restricted for generalization as the study involved analysis of the elementary school parents with partial regions of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province but did not include parents from other areas.
