Study of Hydraulic Characteristics for Rear Parapet Type Composite Breakwater Jung, Yoon Jin Dept. of Civil & Environmental Engineering The Graduate School of Engineering Hanyang University As a coastal structure, a breakwater plays an important role to provide the safety and the calmness inside a harbor zone against high waves propagated from the offshore. Recently, many techniques are developing in order to improve the safety and serviceability of breakwaters taking into account of the hydraulic characteristics of the incident waves without any increases of the crest height of a structure. In this study, the hydraulic characteristics of a newly developed super-structure of a wave wall, which is called as the Rear Parapet Type Composite Breakwater has been investigated in detail. A series of numerical model tests are carried out by using CADMAS-SURF, a well-known commercial model. The comparisons between physical results and numerical predictions are presented. Due to the inherent shape of a rear parapet wall, the wave pressure and the overtopping rates of the proposed Rear Parapet Type Composite Breakwater are less than those of a conventional vertical breakwater.-
