Dual-Port SDRAM의 throughput 향상을 위한 제어기

Abstract

본 논문은 Dual-Port SDRAM의 throughput을 최대화하기 위한 새로운 컨트롤러를 제안한다. Dual-Port SDRAM의 공유뱅크(shared bank)를 사용할 때 권한이 없는 포트에서 권한을 요청한 후, 권한이 이양될 때까지 세마포어(semaphore) 레지스터를 반복해서 읽기 때문에 대기시간이 발생하게 되고 불필요한 전력을 소비하게 된다. 제안하는 컨트롤러는 커맨드 스케줄링(command scheduling)을 통해 대기 시간을 최소화하고 파워 소비를 줄여줄 수 있다. 권한이 없는 컨트롤러는 권한이 이양되기를 기다리는 동안 커맨드 FIFO 내에서 커맨드의 순서를 바꾸어 대기시간 동안 전용뱅크(dedicated bank)에 접근하는 커맨드가 실행되도록 한다. 공유뱅크에 접근하는 커맨드를 실행하기 위해 권한을 획득하는 대기시간 동안 전용뱅크에 접근하는 커맨드를 먼저 처리하여 Dual-Port SDRAM의 throughput을 증가시키고 세마포어 레지스터를 반복적으로 읽는 과정을 줄여 전력소비를 감소시킨다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안하는 컨트롤러가 기존의 컨트롤러 대비 Dual-Port SDRAM의 throughput을 최대 1.49배 향상시키고 Dual-Port SDRAM을 Active, Read, Write하는 횟수를 최대 50% 감소시키는 것을 확인하였다.; This paper proposes a novel controller to maximize throughput of the Dual-Port SDRAM (DPSDRAM). To access the shared bank, the processor which doesn’t have the authority should wait for releasing the semaphore authority and read the semaphore register. The proposed controller minimizes the waiting time for acquiring the semaphore authority by the command scheduling. The controller without the semaphore authority changes the order of commands in the command FIFO. Simulation results show that controller applied to the proposed algorithm improves the throughput of the DPSDRAM at a maximum rate of 1.49 times higher than the previous memory controller.
