- Abstract
- Silica coated poly(methymethacrylate-co-3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate) hybrid particles were produced as a light diffuser and then the effect of particle size on the light scattering was described. To obtain organic/inorganic hybrid particles, monodisperse poly(MMA-co-TMSPM) particles that have various sizes were synthesized by dispersion polymerization. Then, silica coated particles were prepared by a sol-gel reaction and the double bond was incorporated. The double bond helped hybrid particles to coat butyl acrylate. After fabricating optical films, the haze values and the transmittance values from prepared particles in each size were observed. The haze values were increased when the particle size decreased. In addition, the transmittance values with high value were maintained regardless of particle size. These results indicated that silica coated poly(MMA-co-TMSPM) hybrid particles could be potentially applied to a light diffuser.
