In this study, a numerical model based on the FLUMEN, nonlinear shallow water equations, is applied to a flood event simulation at an arbitrarily vulnerable levee at the Han River. In the flood event, a virtual scenario of levee break and applicability of FLUMEN are investigated in detail. For the verification of the model, the numerical simulations on a complex channel are conducted, and the sensitivity on roughness coefficient is also tested.
The location of a vulnerable levee at the Han River is selected by comparing with the existing levee height, based on Han-river Improvement Master Plan(2002) and A Study for River Maintenance Connected with Universities(Phase 2-Stage 4, 2009). The boundary conditions are obtained through HEC-RAS with adjusted roughness coefficients.
It is found that FLUMEN is suitable for flood event simulation at the Han-river, and this study is expected to provide the basic information for selecting vulnerable areas to flood and suggest directions of hydraulic structure construction.
