Abstract
Gas Insulated Lines (GILs) have been widely used in electric power transmission and distribution system worldwide. Because of the excellent insulating and arc quenching ability of SF6 gas, these equipments have achieved high performance, high reliability and compactness. However, SF6 gas has recently been recognized as one of the greenhouse gases, and has prompted discussion on minimizing its emission or replacing SF6 in power equipment. Therefore research on alternative gases are being carried out. SF6/N2 mixed gas is considered one of the possible alternative gases, and its fundamental dielectric properties have been widely studied and well-characterized. In this paper, a full scaled gas discharge chamber was designed and fabricated for evaluating the dielectric performance of mixture gases. And it describes work on AC and lightning impulse dielectric characteristics of SF6/N2 mixed gas from experiments and full scale models. It present an investigation on breakdown characteristics by maximum electric field of the rod-plane electrode of SF6/N2 gas mixture as a design parameter of 345kV class GIL.
