In this thesis, a multi-band MIMO antenna for LTE USB dongle applications is proposed. A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is essential to support a Long-term Evolution (LTE) service, which is an emerging wireless communication standard that provides high-speed mobile communication. In MIMO antenna design, especially in an electrically small environment (e.g. the USB dongle application), broadband characteristics, miniaturization, and high isolation are key factors. The proposed multi-band MIMO antenna for LTE USB dongle applications has two broadband folded PIFAs . The volume of the main and sub antennas is 28.5 mm x 15 mm x 13 mm and 33 mm x 12 mm x 17 mm, and the operating frequencies are the LTE band 13/17 (704 - 787 MHz) and DCS/PCS/WCDMA band (1710 - 2170 MHz). To achieve the high isolation characteristic, the proposed MIMO antenna adopted a polarization diversity structure. The measured peak gains of the two antennas were -2.6 dBi, -3.5 dBi at 746 MHz and 1.2 dBi, 1.3 dBi at 1930 MHz. The MEG ratios were less than 1.1 at both frequency bands, and the measured correlation coefficients were 0.26 at 746 MHz and 0.038 at 1930 MHz. The measured actual diversity gains were 2.95 dB and 8.24 dB, and the channel capacities were 2.79 bits/s/Hz and 4.84 bits/s/Hz, respectively. The proposed MIMO antenna is suitable for MIMO USB dongle applications.-
