조현병 부모를 둔 자녀의 성장경험

국문요약

조현병은 특성상 재발 율이 높고, 증상이 심화되면 스스로 내적 갈등과 혼란을 경험하면서 인간관계 유지에 문제가 발생하며, 평소와 다른 일관성 없는 행동으로 주위 사람을 혼란스럽게 할 가능성이 높다(김정진, 1999). 이런 부모와 함께 살고 있는 조현병 자녀들은 일반 자녀들 보다 심리적·정신적인 어려움이 더 많을 것으로 예상된다(민성길외, 1999). 어머니의 애착이 불안정 할수록 자녀가 문제행동을 일으킬 가능성이 더 높고(강차연, 1999), 어머니의 돌봄이 부족 하였거나 과잉보호를 받았던 자녀가 불안이나 우울해질 수 있는 경향이 높다(Parker, 1979). 실제로 여성 조현병자의 자녀는 일반 인구에 비해 주요 정신장애 유병율이 높다. 그 이유는 부모의 조현병으로 인한 스트레스가 자녀의 성장발달과 적응에 문제를 일으키기 때문이다(judge, 1994). 본 연구의 목적은 조현병 부모를 둔 자녀의 성장과정은 무엇이며, 성장경험에 대한 심층적인 면담과 현상학적인 해석을 통해 조현병 부모를 둔 자녀의 문제를 이해하고 간호중재 개발을 위한 근거 자료로 활용하는데 있다. 본 연구의 연구 문제는 “조현병 부모를 둔 자녀의 성장 경험은 무엇인가” 이며 연구 대상자는 정신보건센터에 등록 되어 있는 조현병자의 자녀 중 22세 이상 성인 자녀 7명이다. 수집된 자료는 Colaizzi의 귀납적이고 서술적인 현상학적 연구로 분석 되었다. 연구결과 5개의 범주(categories)가 도출 되었으며, 각 범주로는 초등학교 입학 전·후의 자녀들은〔생존의 위협을 당함〕이었고, 초등학교 고학년의 자녀들은 〔부모질환과 가난함으로 삶의 벼랑 끝에 내몰림〕이었으며, 중·고등학교의 자녀들은 〔지긋지긋한 부모의 굴레에서 벗어나려 발버둥 침〕이다. 20대 초반의 자녀들은〔삶의 전선에 뛰어들어 가정을 지키려 함〕이며, 20대 중반의 자녀들은 〔내 삶을 받아들이려 노력함〕으로 분류 되었다. 초등학교 입학 전․ 후의 어린 자녀는 부모에게 폭행을 당하거나 정상인 부모· 대리 양육자에게도 구타를 당하고 성적 피해를 입기도 했다. 또 경제적 빈곤함으로 의식주에 위협을 받으며, 학습의 기회가 없어 학업 부진아가 되었고, 초등학교 고학년이 되면서 조현병 부모의 입원이나 이혼으로 가족이 뿔뿔이 흩어지게도 되었다. 기초수급 대상이 되면서 위축되고 초라함을 느끼기도 하였고, 활발하던 아이가 소극적으로 바뀌면서 학교에서는 심한 왕따와 놀림으로 죽고 싶다는 생각을 하였다. 중· 고등학교에 입학하면서 반항 하듯 친구를 때리고, 노는 친구들과 어울리면서 왕따의 한을 풀기도 하였다. 또 가정환경을 숨기고 상상속의 “나” 인양 활발하게 지내나 존재감에 대한 불확실함에 불안함이 가중 되었다. 고등학교 졸업 후 기초수급 대상에서 탈락되면서 부모를 대신하여 가장의 책임을 지게 되었다. 몸은 피곤하고 생활고에 시달리면서도 남들처럼 평범한 가정을 이루고 싶었고, 경제적인 어려움보다 더 간절히 바라는 것은 가족 간에 힘들 때 위로가 되고 대화가 되었으면 하는 바램이었다. 20대 중반 자녀들은 창피하고 죽어버렸으면 했던 조현병 부모를 이제는 내 부모로 받아들이고 마음의 안정을 찾기를 간절히 바라고 있다. 조현병은 잦은 재발과 입원으로 만성화 되는 경향이 높고, 치료에 소요되는 국가의 예산도 많지만, 조현병자 개인의 삶의 질의 저하와 가족의 고통은 말로 다할 수 없다. 조현병은 가족력이 높고, 열악한 가정환경으로 인한 스트레스가 높다. 또 조현병 부모의 자녀양육이 적절하지 못함으로 인해 자녀가 조현병을 앓을 확률이 높다. 이러한 관점에서 볼 때 조현병 부모를 둔 자녀의 성장경험에 대한 연구는 자녀가 조현병에 노출되지 않도록 예방할 수 있는 중요한 자료가 되리라 본다.

Schizophrenia can become chronic with frequent relapses and hospitalizations tend to be high, the country's budget is spent on treatment, schizophrenic‘s quality of life is severely degraded,no words to express their family's pain is severe enough to. A family disease history of who have parent suffered schizophrenia is high, the high stress caused by poor home environment. Children who have parent suffered schizophrenia due to the inability to properly parenting by their parent are sick with the disease is likely schizophrenia.
