This thesis reports a case study on developing a flexible hybrid system by introducing manufacturing cells to a workstation of the conventional conveyor line. Here, each manufacturing cell is operated by a worker and the concept of manufacturing cells is adopted in this study since it has higher flexibility. In fact, the case company has a difficulty in managing human resources due to high job change rate. The hybrid manufacturing system is a worker-dependent conveyor line with serial and cell-based workstations. To show the effectiveness of the suggested hybrid manufacturing system, a comparison study was carried out between the conventional conveyor line and the hybrid system by measuring standard times using the stopwatch method and the MODAPTS, a well-known predetermined time standards (PTS) package, and the results show that the hybrid system is competitive to the conventional conveyor line withh repsect to the system throughput while reducing the number of required workers as well as increasing system flexibility.-
