- Abstract
- To fulfill the future energy demands, scientists and researcher are trying to find cheaper and eco-friendly energy source which will be the alternate of fossil fuel.
Solar cells are promising alternate energy solution and dye-sensitized solar cells could be the cheaper energy source in future. Enhanced performance of dye-sensitized solar cells with counter electrode of activated carbons (including activated carbon coconut shells (CC), pine trees (PN), and coals (CL)) is reported in this study.
The activated carbons have good adhesion to substrates. The DSSCs with activated carbons counter electrodes exhibited a light-to-electricity conversion efficiency comparable with the conventional DSSC having platinum (Pt) counter electrode. The DSSCs with CC and PN activated carbon counter electrode exhibited enhanced performances as compare to CL due to large surface area. The power conversion efficiency of PN, CC and CL was 6.21 %. 5.9 % and 4.17 % respectively.
The high photovoltaic performance of these DSSCs is related to the excellent electrochemical catalysis of activated carbons on the redox of the iodide/tri-iodide complex and it is shown in AC impedance spectroscopy.
