SteamTM 서비스 사례 분석을 통한 디지털라이브러리 활성화 방안 연구

Abstract

국문요지

본고는 SteamTM 서비스 사례 분석을 통하여 디지털라이브러리의 활성화 방안을 논의하기 위한 것이다. 이에 현재 대표적인 디지털라이브러리 서비스 사례로서 SteamTM 서비스에 주목하고, SteamTM 서비스의 사례 분석을 통하여 향후 도래할 디지털라이브러리 시대에 선제적으로 대응할 방안을 찾으려 했다. 본고에서는 디지털라이브러리의 개념과 현황에 주목하고 향후 디지털라이브러리 서비스가 활성화된다는 전제 하에 효과적인 서비스 방안을 모색하기 위하여, SteamTM 서비스의 특장점을 분석하였다. 이를 기반으로 국내 서비스의 한계와 지향점에 대한 실천적 논의를 전개하였다. SteamTM 서비스는 현재까지 등장한 다양한 디지털라이브러리 서비스 사례들 중에서 가장 진보한 형태의 모습을 보여주고 있다. SteamTM은 특유의 유연한 가격정책으로 나타나는, 그 간의 콘텐츠 유통 방식에서 보여주지 못한 디지털 콘텐츠에 최적화한 유통 시스템을 갖추고 있다. SteamTM 서비스 내에서는 다양한 콘텐츠들이 서로 융합하여 파생 콘텐츠들을 끊임없이 재생산하고 있다. SteamTM 서비스 안의 커뮤니티 공간에서는 콘텐츠 생산자-퍼블리셔-소비자 사이의 그간 유래 없는 상호 소통의 양상이 발생하고 있다. 이러한 SteamTM 서비스의 여러 특장점들에 대비하여 보면 국내에서의 디지털라이브러리 서비스 현황은 초라하기 그지없다. 각종 국내 규제에 의해 디지털 유통의 활성화의 길은 아직 요원해 보인다. 그나마 디지털라이브러리 서비스의 형태를 갖추고 있는 몇몇 서비스들도 서비스 그 자체에 충실하기보다는 자사의 영업이익을 위해 디지털라이브러리 서비스의 특성을 활용하려는 경향이 크다. 또한 아직 전반적으로 낮은 수준의 국내 저작권에 대한 인식 경향도 서비스의 활성화의 발목을 붙잡는 치명적 요인 중 하나다. 결국 국내에서의 디지털라이브러리의 전반적인 활성화를 위해서는 국내 법 등의 외부적 장애요소의 개선, 디지털라이브러리 서비스 그 자체에 충실할 수 있는 독립적인 서비스 공급자의 출현, 전반적인 저작권에 대한 인식의 전환 등이 우선 이루어져야 할 것이다. 이미 디지털라이브러리의 현상은 시작되었다. 이 거대한 바람이 국내 뿐 아닌 세계를 휩쓰는 일은 막연한 상상의 문제가 아닌 곧 닥쳐올, 얼마 남지 않은 시간의 문제다. |ABSTRACT

A study on activation of digital library in a view of SteamTM service.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the alternative for activating the use of digital libraries through analysis of SteamTM service cases. Here, we will focus on the SteamTM service as the currently representative digital library service case; we attempted to find an alternative for proactively responding to the emerging era of digital library through case analysis on the SteamTM service. In this article, we focused on the concept and status of digital library and analyzed the features of SteamTM service to explore an effective service alternative assuming that the digital library service will become active in the future. Based on this, a practical discussion on the limitation and orientation of domestic service was carried out. The SteamTM service shows the most advanced for of the various digital library service cases that emerged up to now. SteamTM has a distribution system optimized for digital contents appearing as its unique flexible pricing policy that has not been shown by the contents distribution methods so far. Various services converge with each other and continuously reproduce derived contents within the SteamTM service. An unprecedented communication occurs among contents producers, publishers and consumers in the community space within the SteamTM service. Comparing with these various features of the SteamTM service, the status of domestic digital library service is very humble. Due to various government controls within Korea, the activation of digital distribution still looks very far, The small no.of services that have the shape of digital library service tend to utilize the characteristics of digital library service for their operating income rather than concentrating on the service itself. In addition, the still existing tendency of low level in intellectual property awareness in the domestic environment is one of the critical factors hindering the activation of service. Thus, for overall activation of digital library in Korea, the improvement of external obstacles such as local laws, emergence of independent service providers capable of concentrating on the digital library service itself and overall change in intellectual property awareness are required. The phenomenon of digital library has already started. It is a matter of little remaining time till the imminent future that this megatrend will dominate not only Korea but also the entire world.; ABSTRACT
