Abstract
In this work, we prepared Sn/carbon composite particles and confirmed their electrochemical properties as anode material for a lithium ion battery. The sulfonated polystyrene (SPS)/Sn metal precursor composite particles were prepared that urea used as reduction agent after tin metal precursor introduced to SPS particles. The SPS/Sn metal precursor particles were transformed by heat treatment in order to form the Sn/carbon composite particles. The carbon prevents cracking of the electrode during the volume change of the Sn metal during the charge-discharge process. The Sn/carbon composite particles exhibit good lithium storage properties with high capacity and long lasting performance. These results indicate that the Sn/carbon composite particles contribute to the excellent life and high reversible capacity of the battery when they are used as an anode of a lithium-ion battery.
