A taxonomical study on the order Harpacticoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) from the sublittoral zone of Korea

Abstract

To recognize how many species inhabit the Korea waters, a practical list on harpacticoid fauna was made by using results from several ongoing ecological projects since the last eight years. This faunal list includes unrecorded and unknown species which lacked in the list made by Song et al. (2012). Total of 290 taxa of species and subspecies belonging to 27 families and 116 genera were collected from 7 localities in Korea. Additionaly, I described four new genera (i.e. Geehydrosoma gen. nov., Itostenhelia gen. nov., Wellstenhelia gen. nov. and Willenstenhelia gen. nov.), nine new species (i.e. Enhydrosoma coreana sp. nov., Itostenhelia polyhymnia gen. et sp. nov., Normanella spinosa sp. nov., Sentiropsis coreana sp. nov., Wellstenhelia calliope gen. et sp. nov., W. clio gen. et sp. nov., W. erato gen. et sp. nov., W. euterpe gen. et sp. nov. and Willenstenhelia thalia gen. et sp. nov.) and four unrecorded species (i.e. Geehydrosoma intermedia comb. nov., Onychostenhelia bispinosa, Stenhelia taiae and Wellstenhelia qingdaoensis comb. nov.).
