Abstract
|ABSTRACT Development of a Tablet PC-based Multimedia Educational Contents for Patients with Thoracic Surgery Jung Eun Kim Dept. of Gerontology & Dementia Nursing The Graduate School of Information in Clinical Nursing Hanyang University Directed by Prof. Seon Yong Hwang Purpose : This study aims to develop Tablet PC-based multimedia educational material on a series of procedures ranging from surgery preparation to recovery for hospitalized patients who are going to undergo coronary artery bypass graft or lobectomy due to lung cancer. Methods : Educational content was created based on literature review and a survey of needs in patients who were admitted to one hospital in Seoul and in their families; the survey was conducted from Dec. 2013 to May 2014. The content was developed in conjunction with a production company for video content. Text, image, sound and videos were inserted into the content according to instructional design procedures for analysis, design, development, application and evaluation was developed Results : One educational content was created for patients with coronary artery bypass; the other for those with pneumonectomy. Each content consisted of six 20-minute long lower levels of learning. A series of procedures ranging from surgery preparation to surgery to recovery to discharge were constructed in chronological order. The developed educational content was modified through content validity test by 30 medical experts; the content validity index was 0.88. Patients who are going to undergo thoracic and cardiovascular surgery were asked to rate the developed content; the vast majority of participants were generally satisfied with the content, design, and strategy of Tablet PC-based educational data. Conclusion : This study recommends that Tablet-based educational material for thoracic and cardiovascular patients and their families be used in wards and an intensive care unit to relieve anxiety before surgery and to prevent complications after surgery.; ABSTRACT Development of a Tablet PC-based Multimedia Educational Contents for Patients with Thoracic Surgery Jung Eun Kim Dept. of Gerontology & Dementia Nursing The Graduate School of Information in Clinical Nursing Hanyang University Directed by Prof. Seon Yong Hwang Purpose : This study aims to develop Tablet PC-based multimedia educational material on a series of procedures ranging from surgery preparation to recovery for hospitalized patients who are going to undergo coronary artery bypass graft or lobectomy due to lung cancer.
