Abstract
Molecular approaches in taxonomical study are an efficient methods which support morphological researches. There are numerous studies which have utilized molecular phylogeny for various objectives. The present study profiled mtCOI nucleotide sequence of marine copepods from various regions around the world for DNA barcode analysis. Total of 42 species sequences were amplified and acceptable interspecific variations were observed and compared with previous studies. Intraspecific variation by geological isolation also were observed through phylogenetic analysis using these species. Subgenus system of the genus Acartia was reconsidered with comparison of three different genes during this study. These subgenera proposed by Steuer (1915, 1923), have been questioned for their confused characters. Some of subgenera, especially Acartiura, were compried of clear clade in phylogenetic tree and this subgenus have distinguishable morphological characters compared with other subgenera. Also, a new species of the genus Acartia was observed from Nadi Bay, Fiji, described in this study. Phylogenetic study of the cosmopolitan species, Parvocalanus crassirostris (Dahl F., 1894), was conducted with morphological and molecular comparisons. For analysis, specimens of P. crassirostris were collected from distant geological locations. Each population was grouped into three major oceanic divisions, Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Morphological variations were also observed between former three populations.
