- Abstract
- Eurycoma longifolia jack locally known as “Tongakt Ali” or “Pasak bumi” and “Cay ba binh” in Vietnam, is a traditional herb in the family of Simaroubaceae, and grow wild in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Generally, it is known as ‘Tongkat Ali’
Previous studies, showed that E. longifolia contained biologically active constituents. E. longifolia roots extracts have antimalarial, antipyretic, effect for idiopathic infertility on sperm, antiulcer, cytotoxic and antimicrobial effect.
E. longifolia distributed tea, coffee and health supplements and in forms of capsule, slice, extract and powder, selling through internet by previous mentioned text.
So, in this study we developed and validated analytical method for E. longifolia, that using eurycomanone and 13, 21-dihydroeurycomanone, 14,15β-dihydroxyklaineanone, 13α(21)-epoxyeurycomanone, eurycomalactone and longilactone standards.
Secondly we developed and validated bioanalytical method for eurycomanone standard and successfully applied to animal study by using oral administration of E. longifolia extract to rats.
In order to evaluate pharmacological effect, that using writhing test, hot-plate test and paw-edema test. The effect of analgesic evaluate at acetic acid writhing test, Hot-plate test. The effect of anti-inflammtion effect at paw-edema test, showed pharmacological effect of E. longifolia extract.
