Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate a standard form of alveolar bone for diagnosing for implant placement and determining the extent of bone augmentation. Materials and Methods : This study included 11 men and 11 women (average age, 22.6 and 24.5 years, respectively) selected who were seen at the Department of Dentistry of Hanyang University Medical Center, Seoul, from January 2011 to December 2013. The horizontal alveolar bone width of the central incisors, canines, second premolars and first molars were measured and analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis test were performed to identify significant differences between sex and among measurements. Results : In general, there were no significant differences in mean horizontal alveolar bone widths between the sexes. There was no significant change in the buccal bone widths of the maxillary central incisors and second premolars from the coronal region to the apical region. Conclusions : This study investigated the width and shape of the alveolar bone and teeth by three-dimensional measurement. The results may be useful as a clinical reference when determining dental implant diameter positioning.-
